New England now the new owner of Liverpool!

JOHN W HENRY was last night claiming: I'm Liverpool's new owner.

The cigar-smoking Yank is convinced he will complete a £300million deal for the Anfield giants today - even though the club's fate could still be decided in a Texan courtroom.
QC David Chivers, acting for Henry's company, New England Sports Ventures, declared: "New England are now the owners.
"The old owners, from beyond the grave, are trying to exercise with their dead hands a grip on this company."
Despised duo Tom Hicks and George Gillett spent yesterday in front of Texan judge Jim Jordan desperately trying to cling on to the club.
Henry, who also owns Boston Red Sox baseball team, thought he had an agreement on Wednesday night.
It was halted when Hicks and Gillett blocked the purchase by obtaining a temporary restraining order in Texas.
That was over-ruled after a four-hour hearing in the London High Court yesterday, when Mr Justice Floyd - the man who ruled in favour of the sale on Wednesday afternoon - overturned the two Yanks.
He directed if Hicks and Gillett do not comply by 4pm today, they will be in contempt of the UK court.
But the pair hit back by ordering their legal team to return to the 160th District Court in Dallas yesterday.
They were trying to persuade Judge Jordan the London High Court do not have the jurisdiction to overturn a restraining order granted in Texas.
But Liverpool remain hugely confident the deal can press on and held another board meeting in London last night.
Henry emerged shortly after 11pm. When asked what he thought of Hicks and Gillett, he responded: "I'd rather not say."
Chairman Martin Broughton hopes the deal with Henry, who is understood to have visited the training ground yesterday, will be finalised today.
Broughton said: "We're nearly there. We're still trying to get the restraining order overturned but I hope that will be some time tomorrow."
Liverpool's major creditors, Royal Bank of Scotland, are owed £237m by Hicks and Gillett, with the repayment deadline today. They have held off placing the club in administration as a buyer is waiting.
