LEDLEY KING is ready to risk a lifetime of agony in pursuit of World Cup glory.
The England defender, in constant pain from his left knee, is set to replace injured Rio Ferdinand against the USA here on Saturday.
But he admitted: "I know how fragile my body is. I feel this is all bonus time,
"The knee hurts every single day. It's something I have to deal with every time I get up and walk. There are so many restrictions with it.
"The worst thing is the swelling, the soreness and pain that I get."
Tottenham star King, 29, likely to partner John Terry for the first time since 2007, had surgery three years ago that has kept him playing this long.
But he knows his career is in the balance and sees the World Cup as a highlight he means to make the most of.
He added: "No player really knows when their time is going to end so I savour each game.
"To be here is a dream and I have been working so hard to prove I can be a part of a winning team.
"I believe I can perform at the highest level and I will give 100 per cent."
