RAUL MEIRELES completed an £11million move to Liverpool - and told the Kop: "I'm no Javier Mascherano."
The Portugal midfielder, 27, has penned a four-year deal at Anfield after joining from Porto.Meireles was paraded in front of the Liverpool fans before the West Brom game.
Mascherano joined Barcelona on Friday for £18million - while midfield flop Alberto Aquilani last week completed a loan move to Juventus.
But while Aquilani failed to live up to his billing as the new Xabi Alonso, Meireles has no intention of being a like-for-like replacement for Argy ace Mascherano.
He said: "I am Meireles and not Mascherano and that will be clear to the fans very soon.
"I hope one day Liverpool supporters remember me for being successful.
"The coach, Roy Hodgson, was key to me coming here because he worked so hard to sign me."
Meireles has won four titles with Porto and been capped 38 times by Portugal, playing in all four of his country's games at this summer's World Cup.
With Liverpool financially restricted as owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks attempt to sell the club, fans have had to make do with limited arrivals.
Christian Poulsen, who joined from Juventus, and free-signing Joe Cole from Chelsea were the two big headline names.
But new boss Hodgson is also set to complete the capture of left-back Paul Konchesky from his former club Fulham by tomorrow.
Konchesky watched from the Anfield stands yesterday.
And, last night, the Reds made an enquiry about West Ham striker Carlton Cole.
Hodgson's men have got off to an uninspiring start - with last week's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City setting alarm bells ringing.
But victory over Trabzonspor at least gives them a Europa League campaign to look forward to.
