TASCI could still make a £10million switch to Arsenal

SERDAR TASCI could still make a £10million switch to Arsenal.

The Gunners have held talks with Stuttgart but are yet to bid for the German defender.
Agent Uli Ferber said: "Serdar admires English football and has huge respect for Arsenal."

MANCHESTER UNITED chase for Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan

MANCHESTER UNITED are leading the chase for Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan.

A number of clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal, are tracking the Rosenborg star, 24.
But Annan is believed to prefer Old Trafford.
United have yet to make an official bid but Annan's agent, Lars Petter Fosdahl, said: "We're expecting one of the top English clubs to try to sign him.
"That's what Anthony wants."

Alex Ferguson: We don't need to spend

YOUTH GOT TO LISTEN ... Fergie talks to new Utd kid Hernandez

ALEX FERGUSON is backing Manchester United's whizkids - rather than spend millions in the transfer market.

Boss Fergie insists the future of the club is in their own backyard with youngsters like Federico Macheda, Tom Cleverley, Javier Hernandez, Chris Smalling and the Da Silva twins, Rafael and Fabio.
The new Old Trafford brat pack are all waiting to burst on to the Premier League stage this season.
Manchester City are edging closer to spending £100million this summer.
But Ferguson insisted: "I've got probably 12 players all under 21, which is a fantastic average age, and the future should be pretty secure with them.
"Over the years we've bought players for quite high amounts like Dimitar Berbatov, Rio Ferdinand, Juan Sebastian Veron and Wayne Rooney. But we try to equate how we're going to get the proper value before we do it.
"When I see some of the values now, and you're talking about players at £40m or £30m-odd, we have to assess our own players first.
"We take a quite good view of it now and say let's look at our own young players.
"Have they got the ability? How much can we trust them? Do we see a top player in that young player?
"And we're not bad, you know. There are some good young players who have come through the system.
"They understand the club, they're loyal to the club, and we can build on that."
Cynics might suggest United are keeping their hands in their pockets because the money simply is not there as the Glazers have saddled the club with a £717m debt.
But Ferguson also argues that spending big can actually turn supporters off.
He added: "The enormous amounts of money players are paid, not just for the transfer fees but for their salaries - I don't think it rests easy with supporters."
Ferguson, 68, is now in his 24th year as United boss and many believe this will be his last.
But he insisted: "If I have my health I can carry on. There will be a point obviously when I do quit but I have absolutely no idea when that is.
"I tried that a few years ago and it was an absolute disaster. Agony.

"My wife made me change my mind and she was dead right. I think she was soon fed up with me."
However, it is clear Fergie is preparing the groundwork for his eventual successor.
He added: "What you have to do is maintain the success of the club and make sure that, no matter when I quit, they are always in good hands.
"With any big club, and there's no question we are a massive one with a great history, you have to ingrain yourself immediately into the fabric of what Manchester United are.
"That gives you a good chance in terms of understanding the history. And it's not a history you should be afraid of.
"I was never afraid of it, I was proud to be part of the history. Then after that you need a strong personality, a strong mentality and then of course you need to know the game.
"There are a lot of things that come into management, and for a club our size, personality, experience and a good background are important things."
Ferguson's next task is to wrest the Premier League title away from Chelsea - and he will tackle it with an energy that defies his years.
He added: "It's a fantastic football club which demands a challenge all the time.
"Every day of every year we have to meet the challenge of being at the top - but I think that helps me.
"The second thing is you need good, natural energy which, fortunately, I've been blessed with.
"The third thing is that I can keep going as long as my health keeps going.

"I'm 68 and so far my health has been standing up. So these are important factors. "Also there is the opportunity of working with very good footballers, with good desire and good purpose about themselves.
"At Manchester United we don't just build a footballer in terms of ability, we try to build their character to make them better human beings and to understand their responsibilities.
"The response I've had over the years has been good.
"The younger players and even the older ones have given a great response to the demands of the job.
"They understand their job and I think that's important."
Meanwhile, Ryan Giggs, 36, and fellow veteran Paul Scholes, 35, are both building up their fitness ahead of the coming season on the North America tour.
United head home following the final game of their five-match trip against new signing Hernandez's former club Guadalajara in Mexico tomorrow.
Ferguson said: "They have always been an influence. They are the standard-bearers for our club right through from the kids because they are great examples.
"They have lived their lives right. The consistency in their training performance, playing performance and longevity, they are remarkable people."

MARK HUGHES is set to be named Fulham boss

MARK HUGHES is set to be named Fulham boss today.

Former Manchester City, Blackburn and Wales manager Hughes has stressed how settled he was in the North-West.
But after talks with his family, he agreed to head South and last night was thrashing out the final details of his contract.
He is in line for a £2million-a-season, three-year deal, similar to the one offered Martin Jol.
Hughes looks likely to bring his trusted right-hand man Mark Bowen as assistant.
Hughes' arrival is a massive relief to Craven Cottage chiefs after the Jol fiasco. They had contingency plans to approach Sven Goran Eriksson or Ottmar Hitzfeld if their latest move failed.
Hughes' first game will be Saturday's friendly at Portsmouth with their opening Premier League match at Bolton two weeks later.
He will be under pressure as successor to Roy Hodgson who led Fulham to the Europa League final.

ARSENAL are £5.5million move for Federico Marchetti

ARSENAL are lining up a £5.5million move for Italy World Cup keeper Federico Marchetti.

His Cagliari club president Massimo Cellino said last night: "Marchetti has expressed his desire to leave.
"The only real club pushing for his signature is Arsenal and we will do everything to make him happy."
Wenger has targeted another keeper after losing faith with Spaniard Manuel Almunia.
The Arsenal boss is confident he can land Marchetti, 27, now his transfer request has been granted by Cagliari.
Wenger has turned to him after a £2m bid for Fulham veteran Mark Schwarzer was rejected.
Marchetti said: "My characteristics are based on strength but courage and understanding of your abilities are the basis for success."
Almunia, 33, started last night as Arsenal completed their Austrian tour with a 4-0 win over SC Neusiedl.
He then made way for Vito Mannone, who saved a second-half penalty.
The manager also refused to deny a possible £10m bid for Werder Bremen's Germany centre-half Per Mertesacker.
New striker Marouane Chamakh - signed on a free transfer from Bordeaux - was one of last night's scorers with his first goal for the club.
As for the future of Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Wenger insisted: "There are still noises from Barcelona - but that is all it is.
"In our job you don't worry about things you cannot control.
"We are very happy with Cesc at the club. He is a very important and is our captain. We have worked very hard with him."

TEVEZ has urged Fernando Torres to join him at Manchester City

CARLOS TEVEZ has urged Fernando Torres to join him at Manchester City.

Eastlands boss Roberto Mancini admitted at the weekend he wants to sign the Liverpool striker.
And Tevez reckons they could become the deadliest duo in the Premier League.
The Argie said: "Torres would definitely make us better. He's one of the top strikers in the world and I would love to have him as a team-mate.
"Last year we ended up contesting the Champions League places. I have no doubt that this year we will achieve that aim and fight for the title.
"The club will pick up reinforcements and this will make us stronger.
"I know I've never regretted coming to City. It's the best decision I ever made."
However Kop boss Roy Hodgson insists World Cup-winning ace Torres is staying put.
The ex-Fulham chief feared losing the £50million-rated starbut he is now excited about welcoming the Spaniard back to Melwood next week.
Hodgson, whose season starts tomorrow at Macedonian side Rabotnicki in Europa League qualifying, said: "He's told us he's looking forward to Monday.
"Looking forward to getting back to work and looking forward to playing for Liverpool next season.
"He's enjoying a well-deserved holiday, his first in three years."
Hodgson has told Javier Mascherano he can quit Anfield only if a mega-bucks offer comes in for him.
Rafa Benitez is keen to be reunited with the Argentine midfielder at Inter Milan.
Hodgson said: "Javier made it clear he wants to leave, which is always disappointing.
"He wanted to leave a year ago and he wants to now.
"Whether he leaves or not is our decision.
"Mascherano has a two-year contract and I expect him to honour it until the day comes when the club decides to accept an offer for his services."

Hodgson: Mascherano wants to leave

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Javier Mascherano wants to quit the club - but insists he will only be sold on their terms.
Hodgson has been speaking to the Reds' key figures since taking over from Rafael Benitez at Anfield and while captain Steven Gerrard has indicated he wants to stay, Argentina skipper Mascherano is keen to move on, with reports linking him with a reunion with Benitez at Inter Milan.
Hodgson has had more positive news from Spain striker Fernando Torres, who has confirmed his intention to return to the club on Monday and to remain at Anfield.
"Yes, he wants to leave the club," confirmed Hodgson when asked about Mascherano.
"He has made that perfectly clear. I think he wanted to leave a year go.
"He wants to leave now but he is contracted to Liverpool so whether he leaves or not will be our decision."
Inter Milan, now coached by former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, have been heavily linked with a £25million bid for Mascherano before the transfer window closes.
His representative Tamer has previously suggested a move to the European champions would be a 'dream' for Mascherano.
Recent speculation suggested Torres was keen to play Champions League football this season and was considering his options.
Hodgson said that was not the message the club had received from the Spain striker.
"As far as I know he is looking forward to coming back here; he is back on Monday," said the Englishman.
"He is enjoying a holiday - a well-deserved break as he has not had one for three years.
"He is spending a lot of time with his family, keeping a low profile and as far as I know he is not really speaking to anyone.
"But he has told us that he is looking forward to Monday, looking forward to getting back to work and looking forward to playing for Liverpool next season.
"That is what I know so other reports, I would suggest, are erroneous."

Bolton bring in Real youngster Alonso

Bolton have completed the signing of teenage left-back Marcos Alonso from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee believed to be £1.6million.
The 19-year-old has agreed a three-year deal at the Reebok Stadium and becomes the club's third summer signing following the arrivals of Martin Petrov and Robbie Blake.
Manager Owen Coyle told the club's official website: "He is an exciting young player who has undoubted quality and he will bring that into our mix. I think that we have a real talent on our hands.
"I have said before that when we are investing money in transfers that I want to do it with young, talented players. He isn't the finished article yet - he's a young player making his way - but you don't get through at Real Madrid without having a bit about you."

Mancini: I'd love to sign Torres

ROBERTO MANCINI is ready to move for Liverpool striker Fernando Torres.

The Manchester City boss will battle it out with Chelsea for the £50million-rated star.
The Italian has been encouraged by Kop boss Roy Hodgson revealing Spanish World Cup winner Torres has a 'beef' with the Anfield club.
Mancini said: "Torres is one of the best strikers in Europe and is already playing in the Premier League for three years and knows it very well.
"But it depends on his situation, his price and if he wants to come.
"There are two or three strikers we could go for.
"The choices we have are fantastic players."
The Italian has been encouraged by Kop boss Roy Hodgson revealing World Cup winner Torres has a 'beef' with the Anfield club.
Other frontmen Mancini fancies include Wolfsburg's Bosnian ace Edin Dzeko and 19-year-old Mario Balotelli of Inter Milan.
Last week, Didier Drogba's agent Thierno Seydi claimed to have had direct talks with City about signing the Chelsea star.
Hodgson revealed at the weekend Torres is upset about the way the Merseyside club has been run.
He said: "His beef is with the club, not me. His issues are with what has gone on in the past rather than the future."
Mancini still wants Aston Villa midfielder James Milner but confirmed he will not pay over the odds.
City insist their £24m bid is their final offer.
Mancini said: "When Manchester City enquire about a £10m player, the club asks for £20m. That is not good for us.
"James is still a player who interests us but only at the right price."

City move madness for Milner

James Milner looks increasingly likely to make a big-money move to Man City, but TEAMtalk's Rob McCarthy thinks it would be a huge mistake.
I'm a big fan of James Milner's capabilities - he's versatile, has a terrific engine and an eye for goal. But at this stage of his career he needs to be playing regularly if he wants to star for England - and going to City would not guarantee that.
Milner blossomed last season when he switched from a wide role at Villa Park to a central one, earning him a World Cup spot and two starts in South Africa. That's clearly the position that best suits his lung-busting displays and could turn him into one of the best box-to-box players we've ever had.
Under Martin O'Neill he would continue to be guaranteed a start every week alongside the experienced Stiliyan Petrov, but at City he'll be lucky to make the bench at this rate, let alone force his way into their already largely stocked engine-room.
Yaya Toure, Gareth Barry, Nigel De Jong, Patrick Vieira and Vincent Kompany all play centrally, not to mention Stephen Ireland, forgotten man Michael Johnson and Pablo Zabaleta, who has also filled in there at times.
Sure City are more likely to be challenging for top honours this season, but it looks as if Milner's head has been turned by a hefty wage hike and he is not fully considering the impact it could have on his playing time.
The 24-year-old, who has played 11 times for his country, would continue to thrive under O'Neill's canny stewardship if he stayed, but he'll just be another multi, multi-millionaire playing every now and again at Eastlands - probably skippering the side in the Carling Cup to soften the blow.
Now that might suit a lot of players at the tail end of their careers, but Milner needs to develop his game in all areas before he makes a move that, at this stage, could see him take two steps back rather than giant leaps forward.

City complete £19m deal for Kolarov

Manchester City have completed the signing of Aleksandar Kolarov for a fee in the region of £19m after the Lazio left-back passed his medical.
The 24-year-old Serbia international had already been granted a work permit and underwent a physical examination in Manchester today.
Kolarov will not, however, be joining the club's pre-season tour of America.
Kolarov's arrival puts Wayne Bridge's place in doubt and the England international has already been linked with a move to Liverpool, who are currently without a first-team left-back.
However, manager Roberto Mancini said the defender's imminent arrival did not mean the end of Bridge's career at Eastlands.
"I want two top-class players for each position," said the Italian. "I first saw Kolarov in his Lazio debut back in 2007. I have watched him a lot since then and so have the Manchester City scouts.
"His attacking capability is very good. He is fast and can shoot with power and accuracy.
"He also has the ability to play in numerous positions and is very good in midfield.
"This is an additional benefit to the team. He has a fantastic international career ahead of him. I am looking forward to working with him."

West Ham chief wants Becks on board

David Gold believes David Beckham could play a key role in West Ham's bid to move into London's Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games.
Hammers co-owner Gold rates Leytonstone-born Beckham as the ideal ambassador to help the club win the right to move into the new facility - and the ambitious businessman even believes the 35-year-old could end his playing days in the East End.
"David Beckham could play a massive part, because of his roots, in helping West Ham win the Olympic Stadium," Gold told the Sunday Express.
"And maybe he can still play for us in the autumn of his career.
"For him to join a club like us and help us bring another dream to fruition would be perfect for everyone. We want him aboard."

Ramires will decide tomorrow whether to join Chelsea or Manchester City

BRAZILIAN World Cup ace Ramires will decide tomorrow whether to join Chelsea or Manchester City.

The Premier League champions have made a £20million bid for Benfica's defensive midfielder.
Yet Ramires, 23, who starred in Brazil's run to the quarter-finals in South Africa, is also wanted at Eastlands.
Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira will meet with both English clubs to thrash out a deal best suited to the Portuguese champs.
Ramires is ready to accept the four-year deal worth nearly £50,000 a week on offer from Chelsea.
Yet City hope to gatecrash the party at the 11th hour.
Ramires cost Benfica £5.5m from Cruzeiro last year.
Brazil boss Dunga said he was sorely missed after suspension ruled him out of his nation's 2-1 last-eight defeat by the Netherlands.

Man Utd are lining up a £13million bid for Belgian midfielder Steven Defour

MANCHESTER UNITED are lining up a £13million bid for Belgian midfielder Steven Defour.

But Alex Ferguson has been told he must wait until the Standard Liege star has fully recovered from a broken foot.
Fergie has been trailing Defour for more than a year and wrote the player a letter of encouragement when he suffered his injury.
Now the United boss has been alerted by news of interest in 22-year-old Defour from new Liverpool chief Roy Hodgson.
Fergie wants to head off rival bids by securing a quick deal for the player, who is now around 85 per cent fit.
Defour has a contract until 2013 but his agent Paul Stefani confirmed: "Sir Alex has been interested in Steven since he sent him the letter last September when he was struggling with injury.
"He is still interested but we have to wait for an offer to be accepted by Standard Liege.
"There is also interest from clubs in Spain, Italy and Germany, but everyone wants to play in the Premier League."

Liverpool want Bridge and Huntelaar

Roy Hodgson has admitted he has to be 'realistic' over his transfer targets this summer - but I think the players Liverpool need are well within his grasp.
The appointment of the former Fulham boss as Rafael Benitez's successor was greeted with mixed feelings on Merseyside, with some fans believing he wasn't a big enough name for the Reds.
But the 62-year-old quickly silenced any doubters by first securing the free-transfer capture of England star Joe Cole, then convincing talismanic skipper Steven Gerrard that his future lies at Anfield - two quite stunning coups.
Hodgson has yet to work with the majority of his senior players as they are still in holiday mode after their World Cup exploits.
But in the meantime he has been busy trying to strengthen the weaknesses that led to last season's woeful seventh-placed finish in the Premier League - and he has quickly identified them.
Tabloid talk suggests he will try to prise Wayne Bridge from Manchester City and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar from AC Milan.
If these deals come off, then I may be tempted to agree with Ryan Giggs' assertion that it would be 'dangerous' to rule them out of the title race.
With Bridge solving Liverpool's left-back woes and Huntelaar providing a cutting edge that would ease the goals burden on Fernando Torres, those two additions would make a huge difference to an already-strong starting XI.
It is widely known that Hodgson has a warchest of around £20million to play with this summer - so with only £2million (the rest of the fee is in future add-ons) of it spent on Rangers defender Danny Wilson, he still has plenty of room for manoeuvre, especially as Javier Mascherano has his heart set on a reunion with Rafa which could cost Inter Milan up to £25million.
Armed with that cash, the possibility of Bridge and Huntelaar arriving at Anfield this summer would be a very 'realistic' target - and it would kill two birds with one stone as it would also prove the club's ambition to Torres.
Giggs admits it's "difficult to say what they are going to do" this season but I can guarantee it's going to be a less stressful campaign for Reds fans - and a far more enjoyable match-day experience.
Benitez would more often than not get the fans' backs up with his 'tinkered' team selections, whereas the beauty of Hodgson is he doesn't put square pegs in round holes.
Gerrard will be handed a central midfield role from where he can orchestrate wave after wave of attacks, and Joe Cole will be asked to patrol the left flank from where he found his best form in an England shirt.
If not Huntelaar, then Torres will definitely have a strike partner in crime, and if the Reds do kick the season off with Bridge and Glen Johnson at full-back, plus Maxi Rodriguez and Cole on the flanks, then the front two will get plenty of top-class service, something sadly missing last season.
"Two years ago they were close to winning the Premiership and you can never write them off," concludes Giggs.
With Hodgson at the helm, they might just be worth a punt.

Villa put £30m tag on wantaway Milner

Martin O'Neill has admitted James Milner wants to leave Aston Villa this summer - but he wants around £30million for the England midfielder.
Milner has already been the subject of a rejected bid from Manchester City following a brilliant season last term, which earned him three starting appearances in England's World Cup campaign.
O'Neill, who revealed he has not spoken to Milner since before he left for the World Cup, told Villa's official website: "The state of affairs is really straightforward. James and his agent came to see us before the World Cup and intimated that they would like to go.
"Then Manchester City made the offer, which we told them about. There is a difference of valuation at this moment between the buying club and the selling club. That may well be resolved and if that is the case then absolutely fine.
"I think James' agent has told our chief executive that he wouldn't be signing a new contract. Obviously that puts a different slant on things, like everything else.
"If a fee is agreed, at the end of the day, the player can leave."
Milner excelled after moving from the right into the centre of midfield last season and was the key player in Villa's Champions League challenge, although they eventually lost out to Tottenham for fourth spot.
City have already signed midfielders Yaya Toure and David Silva this summer and manager Roberto Mancini said this week they would not be rushed in their pursuit of Milner.
Losing a star man to big-spending City would not be a new experience for O'Neill, who last summer saw captain Gareth Barry make the move to Eastlands.
The Villa boss, meanwhile, has been linked with West Ham midfielder Scott Parker should Milner leave but co-owner David Sullivan said their rivals would "not have enough money" to tempt them to sell the 29-year-old.

Raul shock move with Tottenham

RAUL is poised for a shock Premier League move with Tottenham top of the queue.

The Real Madrid ace has snubbed Germans Wolfsburg, insisting he wants to end his career in England.
Raul, 33, who played 39 games and scored seven goals last season, is being hunted by Spurs and Newcastle and is available on a free transfer.
Agent Barry O'Connor holds the mandate from Real to find Raul a club in England.
And he said: "With a player of this pedigree there is always a lot of interest but nothing will happen until Real Madrid give the official go-ahead that he can leave."
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has a track record of signing top senior stars like Teddy Sheringham and squeezing the best out of them.
After Redknapp was beaten by Liverpool to signing Joe Cole, he is keen to add to his squad. But it has been made clear by chairman Daniel Levy he will not break the club's pay structure.
It is understood Raul, who won 102 caps for Spain and fired 44 goals, would prefer a move to London.
But Newcastle want to show they are ambitious on their return to the top flight and Raul, the top Real Madrid scorer of all time with 311 goals in 722 games, is on their radar.

City keen on Landon Donovan

ROBERTO MANCINI has admitted Manchester City are still trying to sign USA star Landon Donovan.

The Eastlands manager's first approach for the LA Galaxy hitman, 28, was snubbed by the MLS.
But Mancini insisted: "Landon Donovan is a good player and there is the possibility that he could come to us.
"The transfer market in England does not close until the end of August and there is the possibility that it could happen."
Donovan spent three months on loan at Everton last season and was a big hit at Goodison Park.
But he recently signed a four-year contract with Galaxy which allows for loan moves only during the MLS off-season.
Yet that will not put off big-spending City, who have forked out £200million on their star-studded squad.
Mancini, in the States to publicise Barclays New York Challenge, added that he would not pay over the odds for midfielder James Milner and striker Mario Balotelli, 19.
Aston Villa and Inter Milan are both asking around £30m for their respective stars.
But Mancini said: "When we want a player, other clubs ask much more than is normal.
"This is not good and it is not right. Until today, it is only City that are moving the market.
"We are interested in good players like Balotelli and Milner but we have time - we have a lot of different choices."

Liverpool have completed the signing of Rangers defender Danny Wilson 5m

Liverpool have completed the signing of Rangers defender Danny Wilson after he passed his medical and put pen to paper on a three-year deal.
The 18-year-old centre-back has linked up with the Merseysiders on a contract that keeps him at Anfield until 2013.
Liverpool will pay the Scottish side £2million up front with a further £3million dependent on appearances and add-ons.
"This is a massive challenge for me. This is one of the best leagues in the world and I will be playing for one of the biggest teams in the world," said the Scottish Football Association and Football Writers' Young Player of the Year.
"Coming here from Scotland, people may say I might not be ready for this, but that is a challenge I want to put on myself and that's the reason I came here.
"It wasn't a difficult decision to come here as Liverpool are not a team who come in for you every day, so I can't wait to get started.
"There were other clubs interested in me who are in the Champions League, but once Liverpool came in for me there was only one team I wanted to go to."

EDUARDO £6million move from Arsenal to Shakhtar Donetsk

EDUARDO is on the verge of a £6million move from Arsenal to Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Gunners striker will leave the Emirates in the next 48 hours after taking advice from Croatia boss Slaven Bilic.
He agreed terms for the move on Sunday after six days of negotiations and passed a medical yesterday.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wanted to keep the Brazil-born star but Eduardo feared he would not be a regular starter.
And once the Ukrainians agreed to match his London wages, he spoke to Bilic and Shakhtar skipper Darijo Srna.
Bilic said: "I spoke with Eduardo. He was very pleased with the move to Shakhtar. He is going to a strong league.
"This season they will once again play in the Champions League, have many difficult matches and this is excellent for the national team.
"The captain of Shakhtar is Darijo Srna, in the team there are a lot of Brazilians — I have no doubt that Eduardo will quickly adapt to Donetsk."
Eduardo's name was not on the list released by the club of 27 players who travelled to Austria for the Gunners' pre-season training camp.
The forward suffered a shocking double leg break at Birmingham in February 2008 and has struggled to regain his form.
But Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu said: "Yes, he had a serious injury, we are aware of the risk.
"But at the same time we realise he can give a lot to Shakhtar. We expect a lot from Eduardo."

Sunderland will sign 1.5mil Titus Bramble

STEVE BRUCE was last night putting the finishing touches to a £1.5million move for Titus Bramble.

The Sunderland boss has struck a deal with former club Wigan for the centre-half, who will sign for the Black Cats in the next 48 hours.
Bramble's arrival will raise eyebrows at rivals Newcastle after his rollercoaster five-year spell at St James' Park.
Bruce remains interested in Sol Campbell but the defender, 35, must lower his £40,000- a-week wage demands.

Liverpool close to sealing a £5million deal Rangers defender Danny Wilson

ROY HODGSON was close to sealing a £5million deal for 18-year-old Rangers defender Danny Wilson last night.

Wilson arrived on Merseyside for talks, after being pulled out of the Scottish giants' pre-season tour of Australia at the last moment.
Liverpool are confident they will land the highly-rated youngster and Rangers have already given the move their blessing.
Rangers chief executive Martin Bain said: "We have agreed a deal in principle with Liverpool for the transfer of Danny Wilson.
"Liverpool's offer will see the club receive £2million up front, with add-ons linked to games played taking the total value of the deal to £5million."
Former Kop chief Rafa Benitez was looking to sign Wilson earlier in the summer but the deal could not be pushed through with a possible takeover on the cards.
New boss Hodgson, though, fresh from snapping up Joe Cole on a four-year package worth £90,000 a week, appears to have had more success in bagging the teenager.
Rangers assistant boss Ally McCoist said: "Liverpool would have to accept they are signing potential - but it's a whole load of potential.
"He played an awful lot of games for us last season, probably more than we thought that he would. Yet he really handled himself superbly well.
"We had high hopes for Danny but Danny has high hopes for Danny as well and Liverpool can see the potential there.
"We'll wish him all the best if the deal is done."

Gerrard stay at Liverpool

STEVEN GERRARD last night delivered another major boost to Liverpool by pledging to stay at Anfield.

The Kop idol's future has been in doubt all summer but he now admits he cannot wait to play alongside new signing Joe Cole.
Skipper Gerrard, 30, returned to Melwood for pre-season training yesterday and put the record straight on his own plans.
He revealed how new boss Roy Hodgson convinced him to stay after his relationship with ex-chief Rafa Benitez unravelled last season.
The midfielder said: "I made it clear I needed to concentrate on the World Cup, then have a decent holiday with my family.
"I wanted the chance to meet Roy Hodgson and having done so I'm very impressed with his plans.
"I've only returned to training today at Melwood with some of the other World Cup players but I can't wait for the new season to start."
Gerrard is also relishing the chance to play alongside England team-mate Cole.
The Anfield hero played a key role in persuading the midfielder, 28, to leave London while they were together in South Africa.
Gerro said: "I have seen first hand just how good Joe is.
"He has proved his ability over many years, sometimes against us - so it'll be fantastic to play alongside him in a red shirt for Liverpool.
"I've told him what a great club this is and I'm sure Joe's the sort of exciting talent our fans will love to see. It's a great signing for us."
Hodgson is delighted his talks with Gerrard paid off.
The Kop boss, who arrived three weeks ago, said: "He's a player who I was really looking forward to working with when I came to Liverpool.
"It seems now with that commitment this will happen. It's very good our best player is still going to be at the club."

Didier Drogba not for sale

Chelsea have warned Europe's top clubs - and Manchester City in particular - that Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba is not for sale.
The Double winners moved swiftly to silence speculation over the striker's future after he had been linked with a move to Manchester City by his agent.
Agent Thierno Seydi suggested in a radio interview Drogba could leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer deadline and said there had already been dialogue with City.
But while City insisted there was "no foundation" to Seydi's remarks, Chelsea went further by declaring Drogba untouchable.
A spokesman for Chelsea said: "It is all irrelevant, Didier Drogba is not for sale."
Seydi, who claims to act for Drogba, is noted for hyping up the 32-year-old's future during transfer windows.
But the Blues are in no way inclined to sell Drogba who enjoyed a superb season under Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, scoring 29 Premier League goals as Chelsea secured an historic league and FA Cup Double.
The Elephants international has scored 84 goals for the club since his £24million signing from Marseille six years ago.
City, who have spent around £60million on Jerome Boateng, David Silva and Yaya Toure this summer, were equally dismissive of Seydi's remarks.
A City spokesperson said: "There has been absolutely no contact. We have not spoken to him and there is no foundation to this."
Seydi said the player was happy to remain with the Blues but, at his age, had to consider good financial offers from elsewhere.
"Today he is at Chelsea," Seydi told French station RMC. "There might be surprises before August 31.
"I have not talked to just anybody. The only contact I have had, directly, was Manchester City.
"What is certain is that at the present time he is very happy at Chelsea. That said, it is not forbidden for us to lend an ear to what is being said and written."
Meanwhile Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech was the subject of an pre-season injury scare when he was forced out of training today with a slight calf problem.
Cech went for scans on the injury this afternoon and the club expect to have the results back tomorrow.

Man Utd back to bid Ozil again

ALEX FERGUSON is back on the trail of Germany World Cup ace Mesut Ozil.

The Manchester United boss missed out signing him as a teenager but has kept tabs on the player he calls "the ghost".
Fergie is aware Ozil, 21, has only a year left on his deal with Werder Bremen, who want to cash in before the midfielder is available on a free.
The Bundesliga side did want £20million to let Ozil move on but have now dropped their asking price by £8m.
United's transfer kitty is tight but if a deal can be struck Fergie will push hard to get the cash.

Drogba in talks with Man City

DIDIER DROGBA'S agent has revealed he is in talks with Manchester City over a £20million move.

Thierno Seydi admitted he had spoken directly to City about the 32-year-old Chelsea striker.
Seydi said: "Today he's at Chelsea. Maybe there will be surprises before August 31.
"I haven't spoken to just anybody. The only contact I've had directly was with City."
Seydi told Radio Monte Carlo: "At his age I can no longer hide the financial aspect.
"The club that want Didier will have to meet the price."
City plan to give Drogba a three-year deal worth £18m-plus. Chelsea are eyeing Liverpool's Fernando Torres and will not give up on him if Drogba leaves.

Liverpool confirm Joe Cole capture

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of free agent Joe Cole on a four-year contract, subject to the England international passing a medical.
The 28-year-old left Stamford Bridge at the end of last season after failing to agree a new contract with the club and has agreed personal terms at Anfield.
The England midfielder will undergo a medical in the next 48 hours.
Cole was linked with a number of Premier League sides, including Arsenal and Tottenham, but has opted to move to Merseyside.
He could have gone to a team offering Champions League football but has chosen to join new Reds boss Roy Hodgson at Anfield even though they can only offer the Europa League this season.
The capture of Cole was seen as being a key factor in proving to the likes of Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, who have both been linked with departures after a disappointing seventh-placed finish in Rafael Benitez's final season in charge, that Liverpool can still compete for quality signings.
Cole is the second summer arrival at Liverpool after Serbia forward Milan Jovanovic joined following the expiration of his contract with Standard Liege.
Cole will be seen as a direct replacement for Yossi Benayoun, who coincidentally moved to Chelsea for £5.5million earlier this month, and only time will tell who got the better of that exchange.
Hodgson is still on the look-out for a new left-back with Fabio Aurelio having left and Emiliano Insua on the verge of completing his move to Fiorentina.
After that the Liverpool boss will hope to secure commitments from Gerrard and Torres about their futures.
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp, whose father Harry was keen on signing Cole for Spurs, said reports the player was holding out for the most lucrative contract were unfair.
"From what I know, compared to other players in the Premier League now, he's not being greedy at all," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.
"He just wants a good deal and rightfully so - he's a free agent and he's worked that situation nicely - but I know he's not asking for anything astronomical, like what is being portrayed in the press.
"He's just looking for the right club and he needs to play football now.
"He missed a lot of time at Chelsea last season with his knee injury and didn't quite get back to the level he showed previously.
"He needs to go somewhere, be loved, and play football and get back to being the Joe Cole we all know."

Liverpool agree Insua sale

LIVERPOOL have accepted Fiorentina's bid for left-back Emiliano Insua.

The Argentinian has left the Reds' Swiss training camp ahead of talks with the Serie A club.
Insua, 21, played 62 times for Liverpool after joining from leading Argie team Boca Juniors in January 2007.
His only goal for the Reds came in the 2-1 League Cup defeat at Arsenal in October last year.
New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson said: "A deal has been struck with Fiorentina.
"We wish him well for the rest of his career and thank him for his time spent at Liverpool.
"I am expecting him to join Fiorentina next week."
Hodgson dampened talk of Chelsea discard Joe Cole moving to Anfield - even though bookmakers have suspended betting on who the England midfielder will join.
The ex-Fulham chief said: "I know we've been connected with him, and it's good to know we're connected with players of that quality, but I don't have anything to report on the subject.
"I haven't had any discussions with him, but I had a brief chat a while back.
"If you want to know about transfer targets, and how things are progressing, you'll have to ask (managing director) Christian Purslow because he's the man looking after those discussions, not me."
Liverpool's Saturday night friendly against Al-Hilal in Switzerland was called off following heavy rain.
So Hodgson's first game in charge will now be against Swiss side Grasshoppers on Wednesday.
Hodgson revealed he met Liverpool co-owner George Gillett before the cancelled match, adding: "I don't know him very well, but it was nice to speak to him.
"It was good of him to come to the game. It's a pity that, I'm sure, like the rest of us he would have liked to have seen Liverpool play."

United linked with fresh Lahm move

Manchester United could finally get their hands on Philipp Lahm this summer after Bayern Munich reportedly indicated a willingness to sell.
Sir Alex Ferguson has been an admirer of Lahm for a number of years but Bayern have previously always knocked back his enquiries.
However, Ferguson will have been impressed by Lahm's displays for Germany at the World Cup and the Daily Express claims he is lining up another approach.
Bayern rate the full-back at around £15million but are now said to be ready to talk to United if the Premier League outfit are willing to sacrifice Dimitar Berbatov or Ji-Sung Park as part of the deal.
Ferguson's latest comments appear to suggest he will give Berbatov another season to find his feet at Old Trafford - he hailed the Bulgarian's class after Saturday's 3-1 friendly win over Celtic - and Park remains a key member of his squad.
The Scot does not feel Rafael is quite ready to be a first team regular, however, and could be tempted to consider a part exchange to land Lahm.

Arsenal fail in £14m Jagielka bid

Arsenal are reportedly lining up a £16million bid for Everton defender Phil Jagielka after seeing an initial offer knocked back by the Toffees.
Arsene Wenger has gone on record to state he wants to sign another defender following the capture of Laurent Koscielny and the Frenchman has long been credited with an interest in Jagielka.
The 27-year-old made an impressive return from a knee ligament injury last season and Wenger apparently sees him as the experienced player he needs to shore up his backline.
However, Everton are determined to keep hold of all their players this summer and the Daily Mirror claims the Merseyside outfit have already rejected a £14million offer from Arsenal for Jagielka.
The paper claims the Gunners will return with an improved offer to test the Toffees' resolve, though, and a club-record bid of £16million could be enough to tempt David Moyes into selling the former Sheffield United star.
Meanwhile the Daily Star, which also reports Wenger's interest in Jagielka, claims Sol Campbell will be offered another 12-month contract to remain at Emirates Stadium.

Liverpool offered Joe Cole a bumper £90,000 a week

Roy Hodgson has reportedly offered Joe Cole a bumper £90,000 a week in a bid to make the midfielder his first signing as Liverpool boss.
Hodgson is working with under a strict budget at Anfield and most of the transfers his summer are likely to be outgoing ones, with Emiliano Insua the latest fringe player set to be moved on.
Hodgson has vowed to fend off any interest for Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard, however, and although Javier Mascherano could move on, his aim is to strengthen his first XI.
Cole has already attracted interest from Arsenal and Tottenham this summer and the Reds may face a battle to lure him north, but the News of the World claims his representatives have met with Liverpool officials.
The Merseysides hope a significant signing on fee and the promise of guaranteed first-team football could persuade Cole to sign the three-year contract on the table.
It is also claimed Hodgson could make a move for Fulham's Paul Konchesky to replace the outgoing Insua

Luis Fabiano told Harry Redknapp last night: Come and get me

BRAZIL striker Luis Fabiano told Harry Redknapp last night: Come and get me.

But he may be on the receiving end of a cool reception from the Tottenham boss after he said only recently that Spurs were smaller than his current Seville side.
Fabiano has changed his tune after failing to attract Manchester United or AC Milan.
He said: "I must admit it's only in the last few weeks I have understood just how big Spurs' ambition is."

MANCHESTER CITY sign left-back Aleksandar Kolarov for £17million

MANCHESTER CITY continued their amazing summer spending spree by landing left-back Aleksandar Kolarov for £17million.

The Serbian ace, 24, is poised to leave Lazio to move to Eastlands.
He will become Roberto Mancini's fourth signing since the end of last season - at a total cost of £77m.
World Cup-winning winger David Silva, midfielder Yaya Toure and German defender Jerome Boateng are the other City new boys.

Birmingham move for AZ Alkmaar's Moussa Dembele

ALEX McLEISH is lining up a £5million move for AZ Alkmaar's Moussa Dembele after the striker's move to Fiorentina stalled.

The Birmingham boss has been searching for a new partner for Nikola Zigic ever since pulling out of another £5m deal for Palermo's Fabrizio Miccoli.
Belgian star Dembele, who is also a target for Olympiakos, has been left out of AZ's pre-season tournament.
Fiorentina were put off by the 22-year-old's wage demands.

Henry quits international football

Thierry Henry has confirmed his retirement from international football with France after completing his move to the New York Red Bulls.
The 32-year-old scored 51 goals in 123 appearances for France - with both totals standing as French records.
He scored three goals as France won the World Cup in 1998, but suffered frustration in the following years as Les Bleus struggled to recapture that form.
This summer's World Cup was among the greatest disappointments as France were eliminated in the group stages amid stories of widespread discontent and crumbling discipline in the camp.
However, Henry said today he had already made his mind up to quit before the World Cup, and that events in South Africa did not contribute to his decision.
"South Africa didn't play any part in it," he said at his unveiling by the Red Bulls.
"I could have announced it before the World Cup but I just didn't want to put that type of cloud on top of the team.
"My decision was already taken before the World Cup. I think it was time for me to stop after the World Cup."
Asked about what unfolded in South Africa, where France took only one point from their three matches with Henry making only two substitute appearances, the striker said many of the claims made about levels of disharmony in the squad were wide of the mark.
"I actually would like to know myself (what went wrong)," he said.
"I don't know what it was. From a personal point of view, I am always going to respect the decision of the coach. It was (Raymond Domenech's) decision not to play me and I respect that.
"Lots of stuff was invented unfortunately. I just like to stick to the pitch, and the problem was we didn't play very well. That's the only thing we should be talking about right now. We didn't perform. It's as simple as that."
France opened the tournament by drawing with Uruguay, but then lost their second match 2-0 to Mexico.
It was during that match that Henry's former Arsenal team-mate Nicolas Anelka verbally abused Domenech, leading to him being sent home in disgrace - a decision that was followed by the squad refusing to train in protest.
That sparked a virtual meltdown of the France squad, but Henry insists there were no tensions between the players at the outset of the competition.
"We had a good atmosphere, but when you don't perform well it is difficult. A lot of the stories that came out were invented. For me, you can also have a lot of stuff happening when you win. We just didn't play well. I will stick to this."
Henry added: "You have to remember that with a world champion team, we went to the World Cup in 2002 and didn't score a goal, so it's not just this generation.
"I think the team should move on now with Laurent Blanc in position as the coach, and hopefully they can qualify for the European Championships and do well in that competition."

Man City finalise £24million Silva swoop

World Cup-winning Spain winger David Silva has sealed his £24million transfer to Manchester City - and hopes to help his new club win a trophy.
Fresh from his triumph at the world's biggest football competition, Silva arrived at Eastlands on Wednesday to complete a medical before putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.
The Blues' capture from Valencia is hoping to enjoy more celebrations at City following Spain's dramatic extra-time final win over the Netherlands in Johannesburg.
Silva told the club's website: "I'm very happy with what we did this summer - it's the best time that any player can have.
"I am looking forward to starting the season with my new team, I'm excited about my new team.
"And I will be happy if at the end we are in the Champions League - or if we win a trophy.
"Roberto Mancini and Garry Cook have told me we are building a very good team with some of the best players in the world and we are going to fight for honours."
Silva, heading for a holiday in the Canaries before joining the squad, said: "My first target is to get into the team, and then to fight for the league and the other competitions."

Balotelli is not for sale, insist Inter

Inter Milan have told Manchester United and Manchester City that striker Mario Balotelli is 'priceless' and also insist Maicon is not for sale.
Balotelli, 19, who frequently clashed with former boss Jose Mourinho during Inter's triumphant campaign last season, is reportedly being tracked by United and City.
Brazilian Maicon is understood to be a target of Mourinho, who is keen for the right-back to join him at Real Madrid.
But Branca insists neither player is on the market and that both will remain at the San Siro.
"We are in a very privileged position having won so much and it's true that every day we are receiving calls because everyone wants at least six or seven of our champions," said Branca.
"Maicon and Balotelli? Balotelli is priceless. At this time, he and Maicon are not on the market.
"When and if there are requests we will kindly examine them but they are not on the market.
"The interest in Balotelli from both Manchester clubs is real and very strong, but has not reached an official offer.

Henry confirmed move to US League team - The New York Red Bulls

The New York Red Bulls have signed Thierry Henry from Barcelona on a "multi-year contract", the Major League Soccer club have confirmed.
The 32-year-old former Arsenal captain moved to the Nou Camp in 2007 and had one year remaining on his Barca contract, but the club agreed last month that he could leave.
"Red Bull New York announced today that it has signed star French forward Thierry Henry to a multi-year contract as its second designated player," the club said today in a statement on their website.
He is expected to make his debut on July 22 against Tottenham at Red Bull Arena.
The statement continued: "Henry, a World Cup, European Championship and UEFA Champions League winner, will be available for selection for New York pending receipt of his international transfer certificate and after the July 15 international transfer window.
"His debut for the Red Bulls is expected to be on July 22 against English Premiership club, Tottenham Hotspur, in the Barclays New York Challenge at Red Bull Arena."
Henry will be introduced at a press conference on Thursday at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey at 1315 local time (1815 BST).
The Frenchman is relishing the challenge ahead.
"This marks an exciting new chapter in my career and life," said Henry.
"It is an honour to play for the New York Red Bulls. I am fully aware of the team's history and my sole goal during my time here is to help win the club its first championship.
"Knowing Red Bull's significant commitment to soccer locally and internationally, I am confident that my team-mates and I will succeed."
Erik Soler, Red Bull New York general manager and sporting director, was equally thrilled with the acquisition.
"Thierry is not only a world-class player who will undoubtedly improve our squad, but he has shown most importantly throughout his career that he is a winner," said Soler.
"He has made it clear to us that he is committed in the short and long term to help in our vision of making our organisation the premium franchise in Major League Soccer."
Dietmar Beiersdorfer, head of Red Bull Global Soccer, added: "It is without question that Thierry Henry is one of the most successful and recognisable soccer players over the past 15 years.
"We are thrilled that Thierry has decided to come to New York to help the Red Bulls compete for championships this year and for years to come. His international pedigree is second to none and he is a proven winner."
Henry, who has scored a national record 51 goals in 123 appearances for France, competed at his fourth World Cup last summer but was unable to prevent Les Bleus crashing out in the group stage in South Africa.
He started his career with Monaco in 1994 and then had a short spell with Juventus in 1999 before being reunited with his former Monaco coach Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.
Wenger transformed Henry's career by transforming him from a winger to a striker and reaped the dividends over the next eight years as the player helped Arsenal to two league titles and three FA Cups, and he became the club's all-time record goalscorer.
He switched to Barcelona three years ago and was top scorer at the Nou Camp in his first season and was an integral part of the squad that clinched six trophies in 2008/09 under rookie coach Pep Guardiola.
His first-team opportunities were limited last term, however, and outgoing president Joan Laporta confirmed in May he would be allowed to leave if he wished to do so.
Henry is the League's biggest signing since David Beckham's arrival at the LA Galaxy in 2007 and MLS is expecting a similar boon in interest and income.
"Thierry Henry is a global icon who has had success at all levels of soccer, whether it is with his club or winning the World Cup for his country," Dan Courtemanche, senior vice-president of marketing and communications for MLS and its commercial arm Soccer United Marketing, told The Sport Briefing.
"To have a player of his stature come to play in Major League Soccer and compete with the Red Bulls is only going to further elevate the profile of the game in our country.
"And we believe it is going to positively impact all areas of our business, including attendance, TV ratings, corporate sponsorship, licensed merchandise and other aspects.
"A player of Henry's stature will generate global exposure for the Red Bulls and Major League Soccer, and that is certainly going to have a positive impact on the sport in the United States and Canada."
Courtemanche admitted marquee signings like Henry and Beckham are "most definitely" part of Major League Soccer's plan to aid growth, but insisted the League hopes to start producing to its own world-class players over the next decade through its recently developed academy structure.
However, he hailed such "international stars" for their impact on MLS, which he believes will help the League fulfil its potential.
"We're 15 seasons into our development and right now we're continuing as an emerging soccer league in the global footprint," he added.
"But our goal is to be one of the world's elite soccer leagues.
"It's not going to happen tomorrow and it's not going to happen in the next five years, but could it happen within the next 20 or 30 years? Most definitely.
"Our ownership is committed to that and we've seen the addition of international stars such as Henry elevate the profile of Major League Soccer, but ultimately it is the infrastructure (that will help us succeed)."

ASHLEY COLE is set £30million move to Real Madrid

ASHLEY COLE is set to end his English hell with a £30million move to Real Madrid.

Defender Cole, 29, looks certain to team up with his former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at the Bernabeu.
Real's World Cup-winning keeper Iker Casillas revealed: "From what I am hearing the signs look good.
"I have only briefly spoken to people at the club but I am confident that he can be a Real Madrid player next year.
"I think it will be the right move for him both professionally and personally."
Chelsea left-back Cole has become a figure of hate since splitting with wife Cheryl and being exposed sending a message to pals saying he hated England and the people.
Mourinho signed Cole for Chelsea from Arsenal in 2006.
Spain stopper Casillas, 29, added: "A clean break from England is hopefully something he is very interested in.
"It will be his last big contract and who better to sign for than his old coach Mourinho at Real.
"He will know better than anybody this club will be successful under Jose.
"Jose has proved he buys players and makes them the very best in the world in their position.
"With Ashley he doesn't need to do that because he's already the best left-back in the world.
"Jose knows all about him and it comes as no surprise to me he is very much on Madrid's radar."

CHELSEA wanted to sign Germany's whizkid midfielder Mesut Ozil

CHELSEA have pulled out of the race to sign Germany's whizkid midfielder Mesut Ozil.

The Premier League champs reckon the Werder Bremen star, 21, is bound for Bayern Munich.
But the Blues are still keen on Stuttgart's German midfielder Sami Khedira, 23.
Portuguese defender Fabio Coentrao and speedy Spanish winger Pedro were also on Chelsea's World Cup radar.

Arsenal want Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer for 4mil

ARSENAL have been told to cough up £4million to seal a deal for Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer.

Fulham, still hunting a new boss, have already refused a £2m bid from Gunners chief Arsene Wenger.
Australian keeper Schwarzer, 37, is desperate to move across London for a final chance of playing in the Champions League.
But Fulham do not have a direct replacement and will hold out for their initial valuation of just over £4m.
Schwarzer, a free transfer from Middlesbrough two years ago, is a surprise choice for Wenger, who has said he was not bothered about signing a new keeper.
But it seems he has changed his mind with neither Manuel Almunia or Lucasz Fabianski convincing last season.
Wenger is aware the signing of Schwarzer would only be a short-term fix but the Frenchman has high hopes for Polish academy star Wojciech Szczesny, 20.
Spanish keeper Almunia will leave if Schwarzer arrives, with Atletico Madrid a possible destination.
Fulham have compiled a shortlist for a new No 1, which includes Portsmouth keeper David James.

Spurs wants Joe Cole to join

HARRY REDKNAPP has signed a new contract at Spurs - now he wants Joe Cole to join him.

The Tottenham manager, 63, put pen to paper on a deal that keeps him at White Hart Lane until 2013.
He admitted: "I'm delighted to sign, now I want Joe here with me."
Redknapp is prepared to leave no stone unturned in his pursuit of Cole and is prepared to offer him a regular place in Spurs' team - something the England midfielder could not nail down at Chelsea.
Talks between Cole's agent and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy have reached a crucial stage with the England star - who is also interesting Arsenal and Manchester City - demanding £100,000 a week.
Redknapp said: "I managed Joe when I was at West Ham, I signed him for the club when he was just 11. We have always had a good relationship.
"I know what makes Joe tick - it's his love of the game and his need to be playing it. That is what I am offering him.
"I would like Joe here with me but it is now up to the club, Joe, his dad and his agent.
"Daniel is talking and trying to do a deal. If it is beyond us in financial terms I can appreciate that but I am hoping other factors will come into play to make up Joe's mind."
Cole, 28, was released by Chelsea on a free last month after he refused a new contract.
He turned down all offers of extending his stay because he wanted regular football which the Blues could not guarantee.

Spurs admits Luis Fabiano interest

Harry Redknapp has admitted Tottenham's interest in Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano but the player's salary demands could scupper any move.
The 29-year-old Brazil international, who impressed during the World Cup, is on Tottenham's hitlist as Redknapp looks to strengthen his squad.
Tottenham have not made any official contact with the Spanish club but Redknapp confirmed he would be interested in the forward.
"Yes, I like him," confirmed Redknapp in an interview with ESPN Soccernet. "He's a fabulous player and would be a brilliant addition to any team.
"It was put to us that he might be available, but we've not made contact with his club Sevilla and, to be perfectly honest, I haven't sat down to discuss any transfer targets with our chairman Daniel Levy, apart from trying to do a deal with Joe Cole.
"I am not unhappy with the squad I have, but of course if a special player came along I would look at it, and Fabiano is a special player all right.
"For sure, he is a class act, but I don't know what he earns. He might be on mega money, so it might prove to be impossible for us."
Meanwhile, Tottenham's interest in free agent Cole continues and Redknapp hopes that the former Chelsea midfielder will put cash aside and join the footballing revolution at White Hart Lane.
Cole is thought to be considering offers from Manchester City and Arsenal but Spurs remain in the hunt, with Redknapp looking to team up again with the player he signed for West Ham.
"I managed Joe before, and I signed him when he was 11," said Redknapp. "We have always had a good relationship. I know what makes Joe tick and it's his love of the game, and his need to be playing it. That is what I am offering him.
"I have spoken with Joe at length and I would like him and, when we talked, he appreciated my view that Tottenham is now a club going places.
"I would like Joe here with me, but it is now up to the club and up to Joe, his agent and his dad, and our chairman. He is talking to them to try to do a deal. If it is beyond us in financial terms I can appreciate that but I am hoping other factors will come into play to make up Joe's mind."

Harry Redknapp has signed a contract extension until 2013

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the White Hart Lane club until 2013.
The Spurs gaffer's current deal was due to expire next year but included an option for a further two years which the club have now exercised.
"The club is delighted to announce that we have extended the contract of manager Harry Redknapp until 2013," read a statement on the club's official website. "Harry guided the side to fourth place in his first full season with the club, our highest league finish since the Premier League's inception, with the prospect of competing in the Champions League for the first time this coming campaign.
"The achievement earned him the Barclay's Premier League Manager of the Season award."
Redknapp took over the Spurs reins in October 2008 with the team bottom of the table having picked up only two points from their opening eight games.
The turnaround under his guidance was capped when Redknapp led the club into the Champions League for the first time in May, their place among Europe's elite secured with a dramatic win over Manchester City in their penultimate game of the season.

WEST HAM bid £12million bid for Nice striker Loic Remy

WEST HAM have made a club record £12million bid for Nice striker Loic Remy.

Remy, who bagged 14 league goals last term, is keen to move to Upton Park and has snubbed Lyon and Bordeaux.
He said: "I have always loved the Premier League and always dreamed of playing in England."
Nice want £13m - with £8m of it up front. The Hammers are hoping to pay the fee over four years for the 23-year-old.
West Brom are trying to hijack West Ham's move for Lyon hitman Frederic Piquionne.

SCHARNER'S agent has hinted could be on his way to Liverpool

PAUL SCHARNER'S agent has hinted the versatile Austrian could be on his way to Liverpool.

New Reds boss Roy Hodgson tried to sign Scharner on a number of occasions during his time in charge at Fulham.
The 30-year-old is available on a free transfer after leaving Wigan and Valentin Hobel admits his client would jump at the chance to move to Merseyside.
Hoble said: "Roy Hodgson and Paul Scharner, this is a special relationship.
"Hodgson thinks that Paul's strengths in midfield are better than his attributes in central defence.
"Liverpool would be a dream, of course, but we are in contact with several clubs.
"He is a free transfer and can choose where he goes."

Carlo Ancelotti believes Man United could provide the ideal environment for Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli

Mario Balotelli

Carlo Ancelotti believes Manchester United could provide the ideal environment for Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli - and suggested he would like to see the player at Chelsea.
Mario Balotelli is often portrayed as a divisive figure in Italy
Agent: United want Balotelli
Balotelli, 19, could be set to leave Inter this summer after a difficult year, and the player's agent has confirmed that United have joined Manchester City in the race for his signature.
Ancelotti believes Balotelli could excel if he moves to Old Trafford and said he may be better suited to England than Italy.
"They (United) are a team with great tradition, which helps that type of player," he told Sky Sport24. "Here, the environment is different and I think a player with his character could find it better than in Italy.
"It's difficult to find a player so young with his quality, and England has a lack of players at that level."
Asked if he would like to coach Balotelli, he responded simply by saying: "Yes."
Ancelotti was also asked again about reports Real Madrid midfielder Kaka could move to Stamford Bridge.
"There is no chance of him coming here because he's a Real Madrid player," he said. "I don't think think Real are willing to put him on the market - they bought him last year and therefore this is fantasy. If Real say, 'We want to sell Kaka', it could be the case that Chelsea are interested."
