Spurs waiting for Van der Vaart confirmation

Tottenham are hoping to receive confirmation from the Premier League that they beat the transfer deadline to sign Rafael van der Vaart.
Spurs remain poised to land Tuesday's biggest coup as the window closed in unexpected drama.
Manager Harry Redknapp revealed he became aware of Real Madrid midfielder Van der Vaart's availability for a cut-price £8million just two hours before the 6pm cut-off.
But as night fell, there was still no confirmation from either club that the move had been completed in time.
Redknapp claimed 27-year-old Holland star Van der Vaart had been due to join Bayern Munich for £18million but the move broke down.
He said on Sky Sports News: "It's still dragging on.
"We have been trying to do something but we are waiting to see if it has all gone through and we are hoping it has.
"It's something to do with clearance.
"I think he was going to Bayern Munich yesterday for £18million and suddenly he became much cheaper.
"They let me know around 4pm that he was available for £8million and, for that money, he is a top player who will definitely improve us.
"The fee has come crashing down because the deadline is so close.
"He's a great passer of the ball, he's a top footballer, he will join in here and be a big plus for us."
Van der Vaart helped Holland reach this summer's World Cup final but has struggled to establish himself at Real since signing from Hamburg two years ago.
Redknapp also revealed he had made an approach for Liverpool winger Ryan Babel, saying: "He was a player we made an enquiry about but it never came close."

Stoke City have signed forward Eidur Gudjohnsen

Stoke City have signed forward Eidur Gudjohnsen and winger Jermaine Pennant on loan, while midfielder Marc Wilson has joined permanently.
Gudjohnsen arrives on loan from Monaco, Wilson comes in on a permanent basis from Portsmouth and Pennant will stay on loan from Real Zaragoza until January, the club announced on their website.
The club are awaiting confirmation from the Football Association and Premier League that the transfers were completed in time.
The arrival of former Chelsea and Barcelona forward Gudjohnsen, 31, for the season would be a particular coup for Potters boss Tony Pulis.
Ex-Liverpool winger Pennant, 27, agreed a loan deal to stay at the Britannia Stadium until January after a troubled year in Spain.
Portsmouth's Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Wilson, 23, joined in a player-plus-cash move that saw midfielder Liam Lawrence, 28, and striker Dave Kitson, 30, move in the opposite direction.
Gudjohnsen, who scored against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium while on loan at Tottenham last season, told the Potters' official website: "It is a new challenge, indeed a big challenge, but one I am really looking forward to.
"After speaking to the gaffer and hearing his and the club's ambitions, he really swayed my mind, and I am delighted the deal is done.
"I can't wait to step on to the pitch, the fans are fantastic here and I always remember the atmosphere from when I have played here before.
"I scored here not so long ago for Tottenham, so maybe I owe the supporters something. Hopefully I can reward them with some goals."
He added: "I am an ambitious player, but this is an ambitious football club. I want to help take the club on to the next level. That is my main objective."
Pulis said: "This is a fantastic signing for the football club because Eidur is a player of outstanding international calibre who has performed at the highest level.
"There is no better example of the quality he provides than his contribution to Tottenham's win here in April. Not only did he score an excellent goal, he showed what a great footballing brain he has and his sense of awareness with a key role in their winner.
"Eidur made a significant contribution to Spurs qualifying for the Champions League and I am confident he can have a big impact upon our season."
Wilson, who can play in either midfield or defence, signed a four-year contract.
Wilson said on his new club's official website: "This is a great club which is on the up and so this is a positive move for me.
"I had a taste of playing in the Premier League last season; it's the best league in the world and I wanted to get back there as soon as possible.
"I spoke to (Potters coach) Mark O'Connor when I knew Stoke were interested in me because he was responsible for bringing me through as a youngster at Portsmouth. He's a great guy and he has certainly been a big influence upon me choosing to come here."
Pulis said: "I wanted to freshen the squad up with some young players, and Marc certainly fits that criteria.
"He showed great maturity last season in what was a very difficult time for Portsmouth, so he will give us more competition for midfield places."
He added: "The deal has enabled Lawrence and Kitson to move on, giving them a fresh start in their careers and the chance of regular first-team football.
"We would like to thank them for their contribution and wish them all the best. Liam, in particular, has been a great servant of this club and he has played a major part in the success that we have achieved over the past three seasons."

Robinho joins Milan permanently

AC Milan have signed Robinho from Manchester City on a permanent deal, the Italian club have announced on their official website.
The Brazil forward, 26, was unsettled at Eastlands and spent the second half of last season on loan at Santos.
A statement from AC Milan read: "AC Milan announces it has acquired player Robinho on a permanent deal from Manchester City.
"The Brazilian player has signed a four-year contract with the Rossoneri club."
The fee is undisclosed but is variously reported as between £14million and £18million, which would represent a considerable loss for City on a player they signed for a British record fee of £32.5million from Real Madrid two years ago.
City will at least have his £160,000 weekly salary off the wage bill
AC Milan signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Barcelona on Monday and Robinho's arrival means the Rossoneri will have a lot of Brazilian flair with Ronaldinho and Alexandre Pato already on the books.
Earlier on deadline day, Robinho expressed his satisfaction about joining the Italian giants.
"I am very happy," he said. "Milan is an excellent club."

Sunderland smash record for Gyan

Sunderland have broken their transfer record with the £13million signing of Ghana international striker Asamoah Gyan from Rennes.
Bruce finally got his hands on the 24-year-old with just 20 minutes of the summer transfer window to spare when he completed his move from French Ligue 1.
The fee is in excess of £13million and significantly higher than the initial £10million the club paid Tottenham for Darren Bent last summer.
Bruce will hope for a similar return from Gyan, who has signed a four-year contract at the Stadium of Light.
He said: "As anyone who has watched Ghana recently or who watched the World Cup will tell you, Asamoah is a real livewire.
"He had a fantastic tournament in the summer and a lot of European clubs sat up and took notice.
"I have been very keen to bring in another striker to add to the quality we have, but only when we felt the deal was right.
"We feel this is a great deal for the football club and Asamoah really wants to be here and in the Premier League, so I'm delighted he has joined us."
Gyan is a player in whom the manager has maintained an interest all summer, and that began long before his three goals in South Africa helped Ghana make a major impact at the World Cup finals.
It was his last-gasp penalty miss which allowed Uruguay to make the semi-finals, but he made a big impression on the world stage.
Tuesday's news will come as a welcome boost for Bruce, who was determined to recruit a replacement for Kenwyne Jones following his departure from Wearside in an £8million switch to Stoke earlier this month.
Owner Ellis Short has refused to spend for spending's sake during the most recent transfer window, and chairman Niall Quinn hinted last week that the purse strings might remain tightly closed.
However, Bruce's case was helped by the knee injury youngster Fraizer Campbell sustained during Sunday's 1-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City, which will sideline him for at least six months, and substantive talks took place that night.
Accra-born Gyan is an international team-mate of loan signing John Mensah, who has seen at close hand just how dangerous he can be.
The striker has scored 22 goals in 44 international appearances, a record which marks him out as a genuine threat.
He began his career in his native country with Liberty Professionals before for heading for Italy and Udinese, from where he was loaned to Modena at one point.
Gyan scored the quickest goal at the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany, where he struck after just 68 seconds against the Czech Republic.
He headed for Rennes in an 8million Euros move in July 2008, making 47 appearances and scoring 14 times.
He could make his debut after the international break in the Black Cats' league trip to Wigan on September 11.

Wenger make final bid 4 mil for Mark Schwarzer

ARSENAL have made a last-ditch £4million bid to nab Mark Schwarzer from Fulham.

But now they have to wait to see if Cottagers boss Mark Hughes — who was hoping to bring in wantaway Manchester City keeper Shay Given to replace Schwarzer — allows the deal to go through.
But City are reluctant to help their former boss and manager Roberto Mancini would ideally want to keep hold of Republic of Ireland star Given, 34.
Hughes may turn to £2m-rated Reading keeper Adam Federici, 24, if he cannot get Given.
The Gunners had a £2m bid for Schwarzer, 37, turned down, then angered Fulham by tabling an identical bid after he put in a transfer request.
Boss Arsene Wenger has stood by error-prone Manuel Almunia but is desperate to bring in a reliable keeper to bolster his title bid.
Ex-Arsenal defender MIKAEL SILVESTRE, 33, has signed a two-year deal with Werder Bremen - who are in Champions League Group A with Spurs!

Asamoah Gyan reported to move to Sunderland 12mil

Rennes striker Asamoah Gyan has arrived at Sunderland ahead of his proposed move to the Stadium of Light for a reported £12million.
Gyan, 24, caught the eye at the 2010 World Cup, scoring three goals for his country Ghana in South Africa.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is keen to bolster his frontline before the transfer window closes at 6pm on Tuesday, and Gyan has emerged as his top target.
It is understood that a deal in the region of £12million could be in the offing, set to be rubber-stamped following a medical and the agreement of personal terms.
Gyan joined Rennes from Udinese in 2008 and he has since scored 14 goals for the club.

Gomez keen on Liverpool move

Mario Gomez's agent has hinted the German striker would relish a move to Liverpool, but Bayern Munich have no intention of selling any players.
Liverpool are believed to made a loan enquiry for the German international as they look for someone to take some of the goalscoring burden off Fernando Torres.
Gomez has dropped down the pecking order at Bayern and his agent, Uli Ferber, has admitted it would be hard for him to reject a move to Liverpool.
"When a club like Liverpool enquires, their interest cannot be pushed off the table," Ferber told Kicker.
However, Bayern's sporting director Christian Nerlinger claims no one will be leaving the German champions before the transfer window closes.
"Bayern Munich are not a superstore for other clubs to come and help themselves to players," said Nerlinger.
"No player will be leaving and they will certainly not be leaving on loan."

Marcus Bent completes Wolves loan move

Wolves have boosted their strike options with the signing of out-of-favour Birmingham striker Marcus Bent on a surprise four-month loan deal.
Bent, 32, bolsters Wolves' numbers up front following the departure of Andy Keogh to Cardiff on a season-long deal.
"Marcus is an experienced striker who has played plenty of Premier League football and scored goals," said Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey.
"People still talk about whether we've got enough Premier League experience, and Marcus will add to that.
"He's also a different type of striker to what we have in that he's a physical presence.
"We needed someone after the departure of Andy Keogh and Marcus can do a job for us."
Bent has fallen down the pecking order at St Andrews after the arrivals of Nikola Zigic and Matt Derbyshire.
He spent parts of last season on loan at Middlesbrough and QPR.

Besiktas hope to long loan for Robbie Keane

Besiktas have reportedly launched a surprise bid to sign out-of-favour Tottenham striker Robbie Keane on a season-long loan.
The Turkish club would be able to offer the Republic of Ireland captain the first-team football he craves but has found in short supply at Spurs since returning from his failed time at Liverpool.
Harry Redknapp, who re-signed Keane in February 2009, has preferred to use Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko, and letting fringe players leave would make room in his 25-man Premier League squad for other options.
Republic of Ireland captain Keane was loaned to Celtic for the second half of last season and he has been repeatedly linked with another temporary move away from White Hart Lane.
Keane is a target of West Ham manager Avram Grant and it is thought that Spurs could offer the forward as bait in their last-ditch attempts to land midfielder Scott Parker.

Spurs and West Ham bid for for Liverpool winger Ryan Babel

Spurs and West Ham have reportedly made last-ditch moves for Liverpool winger Ryan Babel, who doesn't seem to figure in Roy Hodgson's plans.
It is believed the London duo have contacted the Reds to ask about Dutch flyer Babel's availability.
Liverpool are thought to be willing to let Babel move on for the right fee as Hodgson looks to reshape his squad at Anfield.
West Ham have held a long-term interest in Babel and he has been mentioned in a possible swap deal with Carlton Cole.
Tottenham are thought to have turned their attentions to Babel after missing out on a number of other top targets.
Babel's long-term future at Liverpool has been the subject of speculation for some time, with the Dutchman struggling to hold down a regular place in the starting XI under both Rafa Benitez and Hodgson.
Any move could depend on whether Liverpool can bring in a replacement for Babel before the close of the window.

Mascherano seals Barca switch

Javier Mascherano has completed his move from Liverpool to Barcelona and has signed a four-year contract with the Spanish side.
Mascherano putt pen to paper on his contract at the Nou Camp office of new club president Sandro Rosell after passing a medical.
The contract has a buy-out clause of 90million euros.
Mascherano will wear the number 14 shirt with Barca, which was previously the number worn by Thierry Henry prior to the Frenchman's departure this summer.
The Argentina international earlier underwent separate tests at the Hospital de Barcelona and at the Nou Camp and.
Club doctor Ricard Pruna told Barca TV: "It was an exhaustive medical that lasted around five hours. He is in excellent condition and is physically great.
"His cardiovascular level is perfect and he is a player who has had very few injuries. In the last five years he has suffered one injury that has left him with problems."
The 26-year-old Mascherano reportedly cost Barca 22million euros (£18million).

IBRAHIMOVIC will be officially unveiled as an AC Milan player

ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC will be officially unveiled as an AC Milan player tomorrow.

The Sweden striker has cut his ties with Barcelona and agreed a four-year deal with the Italian side after the European heavyweights thrashed out a £20million fee.
Ibrahimovic, 28, will fly in to Milan in the morning and be presented to the club's supporters before the game against Lecce.
Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani said: "We have agreed a deal for a season's loan and then the right to buy for 24million euros.
"He will undergo a medical on Monday and sign a four-year contract."
Dutch hitman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is now expected to leave the San Siro, with German outfit Schalke 04 said to be interested.
Meanwhile, Milan's Serie A rivals Juventus have confirmed the departure of French striker David Trezeguet after 10 years at the club.

MEIRELES completed an £11million move to Liverpool

RAUL MEIRELES completed an £11million move to Liverpool - and told the Kop: "I'm no Javier Mascherano."

The Portugal midfielder, 27, has penned a four-year deal at Anfield after joining from Porto.
Meireles was paraded in front of the Liverpool fans before the West Brom game.
Mascherano joined Barcelona on Friday for £18million - while midfield flop Alberto Aquilani last week completed a loan move to Juventus.
But while Aquilani failed to live up to his billing as the new Xabi Alonso, Meireles has no intention of being a like-for-like replacement for Argy ace Mascherano.
He said: "I am Meireles and not Mascherano and that will be clear to the fans very soon.
"I hope one day Liverpool supporters remember me for being successful.
"The coach, Roy Hodgson, was key to me coming here because he worked so hard to sign me."
Meireles has won four titles with Porto and been capped 38 times by Portugal, playing in all four of his country's games at this summer's World Cup.
With Liverpool financially restricted as owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks attempt to sell the club, fans have had to make do with limited arrivals.
Christian Poulsen, who joined from Juventus, and free-signing Joe Cole from Chelsea were the two big headline names.
But new boss Hodgson is also set to complete the capture of left-back Paul Konchesky from his former club Fulham by tomorrow.
Konchesky watched from the Anfield stands yesterday.
And, last night, the Reds made an enquiry about West Ham striker Carlton Cole.
Hodgson's men have got off to an uninspiring start - with last week's 3-0 defeat at Manchester City setting alarm bells ringing.
But victory over Trabzonspor at least gives them a Europa League campaign to look forward to.

Liverpool link with Carlton Cole

Roy Hodgson has confirmed he is in the market for a new striker amid reports Liverpool are holding talks with West Ham about Carlton Cole.
According to Sky Sports News, Liverpool made an enquiry about the Hammers striker over the weekend and are now in 'early talks' as they continue their search for extra firepower before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
Speaking after the victory over West Brom, Hodgson told Liverpool's official website: "We've got space to add a player. We'd like another striker, we've said that all along and there's no point me denying it. But we still haven't found the right man and time is running out for us."
Hammers boss Avram Grant has previously stated that he does not want to sell the striker, while Cole himself has declared that he expects to stay at Upton Park.
But it is not surprising that the 26-year-old has attracted interest after establishing himself as an effective Premier League performer.
Cole and his West Ham team-mates have had little success this season, though, losing their first three games to lie bottom of the table.

Sunderland hope to get claws into Gyan

Sunderland have opened formal negotiations with French club Rennes over a club record £9million move for Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan.
It is understood the Black Cats are in talks as they attempt to recruit a replacement for Kenwyne Jones ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline.
Their need became more acute on Sunday when Fraizer Campbell, who had been partnering Darren Bent, suffered suspected knee ligament damage during the 1-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City.
Gyan, 24, an international colleague of on-loan defender John Mensah, was one of the stars of the World Cup finals and has been in manager Steve Bruce's sights all summer.
Sunderland have vowed not to spend for spending's sake, but Jones' £8million departure for Stoke has left a major hole in their attack, and while Campbell has impressed, Bruce has been keen to recruit a proven goalscorer.
Speaking after today's game as he awaited news of the former Manchester United youngster's injury, Bruce was hoping chairman Niall Quinn would be able to make a breakthrough.
He said: "It's imperative, the chairman knows that.
"It was imperative before we started, so if we are going to lose Fraizer for a few months, then we have got to try to act if we possibly can."

Adebayor: Let me play in first eleven or I'm out

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR claims he will quit Manchester City if he is not guaranteed a starting role.

The former Arsenal striker returned to the team for the Europa League victory over Timisoara last night.
But he could find himself back on the bench for Sunday's Premier League clash against Sunderland if £24million new boy Mario Balotelli recovers from a knee problem.
Adebayor faces stiff competition for a spot in the first XI from the 19-year-old Italian and new City captain Carlos Tevez.
The Togo hitman has seen just seven minutes of Premier League action so far this term and has threatened to call time on his stay at Eastlands if he does not get more playing time.
Adebayor said: "The season is going to be very long and very difficult for myself.
"I'm a footballer and have to keep going and not give up. I need to keep fighting for myself and enjoying my football.
"But if you're in a team and you're not playing and there is a team that comes in for me, then I will definitely be on my way out because I'm a footballer and I love playing.
"So if I don't have a chance to play here there will be a lot of chances to play somewhere else.
"If they [Manchester City] force you out then you always have to follow your destiny."

Liverpool agreed sell Javier Mascherano to Barcelona

LIVERPOOL have agreed to sell Javier Mascherano to Barcelona.

The midfielder, who has also been linked with Inter Milan, forced boss Roy Hodgson's hand by refusing to play against Manchester City on Monday night.
Hodgson was keen to keep him but has reluctantly agreed to let Barca talk to the wantaway Argie star.
A statement from Liverpool said: "We have agreed terms for the transfer of Javier Mascherano to Barcelona.
"The Spanish club have now been given permission to speak to the Argentina midfielder."
Mascherano, 26, will sign a four-year deal with Pep Guardiola's side.
A statement from the La Liga giants confirmed: "Barcelona and Liverpool have reached an agreement for the transfer of Javier Mascherano for the next four seasons.
"The deal depends on the utility star passing a medical at Barca and the signing of his contract.
"Mascherano will arrive in Barcelona this weekend.

Ben Arfa flies in for talks with Newcastle

Marseille winger Hatem Ben Arfa will travel to Newcastle for talks this weekend after the Magpies improved their offer to the Ligue 1 outfit.
Ben Arfa's move to St James' has been in the pipeline for some deal, but the deal stalled over the price Newcastle would have to pay for the Frenchman after his initial loan deal.
Ben Arfa refused to train with the club in a bid to force a move away from Stade Velodrome and Newcastle are now back in line to land the 23-year-old.
Marseille president Jean-Claude Dassier has confirmed they have agreed a deal with Newcastle for Ben Arfa with the winger due to fly in for talks.
"He will travel to Newcastle tomorrow," said Dassier. "They have offered to raise the price for the option-to-buy if Hatem plays 25 matches and also pay the five per cent of the cost to FIFA.
"We will respond. After that it's up to Hatem to agree a deal. We have to finish this story as soon as possible."

Mancienne completes move to Wolves

Michael Mancienne admits a thirst for first-team football persuaded him to rejoin Wolves club for a third loan spell.
The Chelsea utility player has linked up with Wolves for a third time, until the end of the current campaign.
Mancienne previously had spells at Molineux in the Championship during 2008-09 and then last season on their return to the Premier League.
The 22-year-old was also linked with a move to West Ham and Newcastle before committing himself to Wolves.
Mancienne said: "It didn't look like anything was going to happen with Chelsea and I want to play.
"Wolves have been very good to me in the past and I'm delighted to be back.
"In a way it feels like I'm coming back home and I'm really looking forward to the season.
"There were other alternatives, but the gaffer here has been really good to me and had faith in me and helped me improve my game.
"That played a big part in my decision."
Mick McCarthy preferred to sign Mancienne for a further loan spell rather than pay Chelsea in region of £4-5 million.
He said: "We know Michael's quality and it's great to have him back.
"He's very versatile and can operate in different positions."
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey admitted: "We did speak to Chelsea about a permanent deal but it was decided the best course of action was another season-long loan.
"Michael was happy to do that, and although he had other alternatives, decided to come back to Wolves."
Mancienne initially came to Wolves as a central defender but last season also operated in a holding midfield role.

Arsenal sign Squillaci from Sevilla

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed the Gunners have completed the signing of French defender Sebastien Squillaci from Sevilla.
The 30-year-old's transfer was confirmed by Wenger this morning, and the veteran is set to train with his new team-mates tomorrow but will not feature in Saturday's trip to Blackburn.
Squillaci has plenty of experience having played in the Champions League for Sevilla, although he asked to be left out of their qualifier for this year's competition after hearing of Arsenal's interest so as not to be cup-tied.
Squillaci, part of France's World Cup squad, certainly brings an experienced head to the Arsenal rearguard following the departures of William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre, Sol Campbell and Philippe Senderos. Another summer signing, Laurent Koscielny, is still unproven at Champions League level.
"We needed a centre-back of quality and experience if possible, and at the right price - Sebastien was all of that," Wenger said.
"He is a real defender and is good in the one against one, good in the air, and can score goals on set-pieces as well.
"I believe he will be suited to the English game.
"He will train with us tomorrow morning, but will not be involved on Saturday."
Arsenal have also been linked with Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, with Fulham turning down two bids for the 37-year-old.
While Wenger refused to rule out bringing in any more players ahead of the deadline, the Arsenal manager insisted no deals were imminent.
"We are where we are - we have four great 'keepers and it is important we give confidence to them for the next game," Wenger said.
"I do not rule it out, but at the moment I say I am not in a position to sign anybody. At the moment, it is all dead."
Wenger, though, indicated players could still move overseas - with full-back Armand Traore looking set to leave for Benfica.
"I believe the transfer window should have been over already for a long time, because it should stop when the championship starts for domestic transfers, internationally it should go on until August 31 because not everybody starts at the same time," the Arsenal manager said.

New overseas buyer want to buy Liverpool between £400million and £500million

Renowned deal-broker Keith Harris claims an overseas buyer is considering making an offer of between £400million and £500million for Liverpool.
The former Football League chairman, who has had a hand in the sales of Aston Villa, West Ham and Manchester City in the past, said due diligence has already been done.
Harris also said the party he was representing was not one mentioned publicly before.
"The overseas buyer we represent has completed due diligence. A huge amount of work has been done," he said.
"It is none of the groups mentioned in the press. The ball is now in our client's court to make an offer.
"I do not think the deal will be done before the transfer window closes this month but the next pressure point is October when some of the RBS loan of £237million has to be repaid.
"It may happen then. But in the present climate these things are impossible to predict."
Last week Hong Kong-based businessman Kenny Huang - whose interest was allied to the Chinese government - pulled out of the bidding process, while Syrian-Canadian Yahya Kirdi's much-publicised interest has been treated with scepticism.
Harris said history has taught him that those who went public before an agreement had been reached rarely succeeded.
"The Chinese government involvement was always a bit far-fetched," he told the London Evening Standard.
"In any takeover situation, when people resort to announcing it to the media, you have to question the seriousness of the offer.
"If the name of the prospective buyer comes out before the deal is done then probably it is never going to be done.
"Look at when Chelsea was sold in 2003. My firm was advising the club and we only knew of Roman Abramovich on the Thursday before the deal was completed the following Tuesday."
Harris worked on a bid for Liverpool two years ago for Kuwaiti Nasser Al Khorafi, whom it is claimed agreed a deal for £300million up front and another £100million based on financial performance only to pull out at the last minute.
"He just lost his appetite. No explanation was forthcoming," added Harris.

SANTA CRUZ is set to join Lazio on loan

ROQUE SANTA CRUZ is set to join Lazio on a year's loan from Manchester City.

The Rome club will pay City an initial £1.65m with a view to a permanent deal.
Striker Santa Cruz, 29, hit just four goals after a £17.5m Blackburn switch.

UTAKA complete a £1million switch to Sunderland

JOHN UTAKA is set to quit Portsmouth and complete a £1million switch to Sunderland.

Pompey are keen to offload the striker to the Black Cats.
And administrator Andrew Andronikou admitted: "I am very confident he will go."

Chelsea bid 8m for South Korea World Cup star Chu-Young Park

CHELSEA are weighing up a move for South Korea World Cup star Chu-Young Park.

The Monaco striker's representatives met with Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti, sporting director Frank Arnesen and chief executive Ron Gourlay before their opening-day 6-0 win against West Brom.
And Chelsea will decide within the next 48 hours whether to meet Monaco's £8million asking price for the 25-year-old - who started all four of South Korea's games at this summer's World Cup.
The deal could give Chelsea a chance to break into the lucrative Far East market, where Park is second only to Manchester United's Ji-Sung Park in terms of stature.
Chelsea will play against a Thailand All Stars XI in Bangkok next summer as part of their pre-season preparations and may go on to tour South Korea.
If Park was playing then the club could charge up to £2m in match fees which, along with increased shirt sales, would make the deal virtually self-sufficient.
And the Premier League champions also hope it would encourage sponsors Samsung - whose current deal runs until the end of the 2012-13 season - to extend their contract.

West Ham chase Kevin Gameiro

WEST HAM have made an £8million bid for Lorient hitman Kevin Gameiro.

SunSport understands the French side have rejected the offer as they want £11.5m and the Hammers are now considering a renewed bid.
Gameiro, 23, is one of the hottest strikers of Le Championnat.
A regular for France's youth teams and the Under-21 side, he is now expected to get his first senior call-up next month from France boss Laurent Blanc.
He bagged 17 league goals last season and caught the eye of several major European clubs.
Under-fire Hammers boss Avram Grant is desperate to strengthen his squad after back-to-back losses in their first two games this campaign.
Gameiro has two years left on his contract and Lorient are ready to let him go but are driving a hard bargain.
Grant has at least been boosted with the news defender Matthew Upson will be fit for Saturday's visit to Manchester United.
He was forced off against Bolton on Saturday after being kicked in the face by Kevin Davies.

Mido joins Ajax

Mido
Ajax have confirmed the signing of former Middlesbrough striker Mido on a one-year contract.
Mido spent time on loan at West Ham last season
Mido, 27, was allowed to leave Boro on a free transfer as he was considered surplus to requirements and, having spent time at Ajax from 2001 to 2003, he has agreed a deal to return to Amsterdam.
Boss Martin Jol told the club's official website: "We needed an extra striker and we have limited resources which have to be considered."
Mido spent time on loan with West Ham last season and has also played for Celta Vigo, Marseille, Roma, Tottenham, Wigan and Zamalek.
Meanwhile, Ajax have loaned defender Robbie Wielaert out to Roda JC on a year-long deal. Wielaert is out of contract next summer.

MANCHESTER UNITED will pay £60,000 in fines for Alex Ferguson

MANCHESTER UNITED will pay £60,000 in fines for Alex Ferguson as he carries on his ban of speaking to the BBC.

New Premier League rules say all bosses must talk to the Beeb after games or will be fined, with the scale of punishments increasing for repeat offenders.
The first fine is £1,000 but this rises each time with the cost hitting around £60,000 for the full season.
Fergie has not spoken to the BBC since a 2004 documentary about his son Jason's work as an agent.
Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer said: "I don't think he will speak to us again.
"Alex is a man of his word and a man of principle."

Kuyt claims Inter Milan bid

Dirk Kuyt featured in Liverpool's opening 1-1 draw with Arsenal

Liverpool have received an offer from European champions Inter Milan for Dirk Kuyt.
Dirk Kuyt: Could follow Rafa Benitez to Inter
Kuyt's agent revealed earlier in the week that Inter were keen to sign the Dutchman and it seems the player has been informed of their interest by Liverpool.
"On Thursday night, during the Europa League game against Trabzonspor, the board of Liverpool informed me officially that they have received a fax from Inter," Kuyt is quoted as saying in the Mail on Sunday. "You can call this a luxury situation for me now."
Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is now in charge at the San Siro and is reported to have made £15 million bid for Kuyt, who he originally signed from Feyenoord.
But on Saturday, current Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson said. "I spoke to [Inter president] Massimo Moratti about the fact they are not going to buy Liverpool players.
"I believe they were only interested in two of our players and they are not going to buy them. Moratti said they are not going to do that."

Alex Ferguson sick of penalty shocker

Then Fergie was told he faces a £1,000 Premier League fine for boycotting the BBC under new rules.
Fergie could hardly believe his eyes when sub Nani missed the 87th-minute spot-kick with United leading 2-1 before Brede Hangeland scored a last-minute equaliser for Fulham.
Ferguson moaned: "To miss a penalty to make it 3-1, you're throwing two points away there I'm afraid. The miss galvanised Fulham."
Fergie later breached a new rule forcing all managers to speak to the BBC.
The United boss has boycotted the Beeb since a 2004 Panorama investigation into his son Jason's activities as an agent.
A Premier League statement said: "This is a breach of our rules and the board will consider the appropriate course of action at their next meeting in September."
Fulham boss Mark Hughes said: "We deserved at least a point. I was delighted with our character.

Ex-Gunner Gallas signs for Spurs

Tottenham have confirmed the signing of former Arsenal defender William Gallas on a one-year contract.
Gallas, out of contract after leaving the Gunners, had only to complete a medical and agree personal terms.
Spurs have also retained the right to extend the contract of the 33-year-old, who also played in the Premier League for Chelsea, for another season.
Gallas will join a select band of players who have turned out for Arsenal and Tottenham and the move is likely to be controversial with some fans of both north London rivals.
But Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said on Friday: "It's all cobblers.
"What's he done? It's not the Yorkshire Ripper I'm signing, is it? He's a footballer, he plays football."
France international Gallas was part of the Chelsea side which won back-to-back Premier League titles after moving from Marseille.
He joined Arsenal in 2006 and captained the team in the 2007-08 season.

Gunners agree deal for Squillaci

Sevilla have confirmed they have accepted an offer from Arsenal for defender Sebastien Squillaci, with the player heading to London on Monday.
The Frenchman is currently en route to England for a medical with a view to signing for the Gunners ahead of next Tuesday's transfer deadline.
A statement on the Sevilla website read: "Defender Sebastien Squillaci is tonight travelling to London to have a medical at Arsenal, the club he will be transferred to after an agreement was reached by the two clubs pending the results of the medical."
Squillaci, 30, will strengthen an Arsenal rearguard weakened by the departures of William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre, Sol Campbell and Philippe Senderos if he does put pen to paper and complete a move to Arsene Wenger's men.
The former Lyon centre-half, who joined Sevilla from Les Gones two years ago, asked to be left out of the side for the Champions League play-off against Braga last week so he would not be cup-tied for European competition.

Neymar stay at Santos

BRAZIL ace Neymar has turned down a £17million move to Chelsea and signed a new deal at Santos.

It is a stinging snub for Blues boss Carlos Ancelotti, a keen admirer of the striker who has agreed a new five-year deal with the Brazilians.
The 18-year-old's get-out clause was £30m but Chelsea offered little over half that amount. The new deal comes with a new £38.5m release clause.
Santos quadrupled Neymar's wages to £55,000 a week to stave off Chelsea.
The striker said: "I spoke with my dad a lot and I decided to stay.
"Money itself doesn't bring happiness. I am happy here at Santos and I want to go on being happy here."
Santos president Luiz Alvaro said: "Chelsea refused to pay the release clause. The fact we have kept this boy shows Brazilian clubs are no longer hostages to Europe."

Burley hopeful over Davids deal

George Burley says Holland legend Edgar Davids is "80-20" to come out of retirement and join Crystal Palace, as he's 'keen to play again'.
The 37-year-old midfielder has not played a competitive match since 2008 but has held talks with Palace manager Burley about linking up with the Eagles.
"He's a world-renowned player, he's a very nice fellow and he's keen to play again," Burley told talkSPORT.
"He's been doing a lot of training and after a number of chats with him I'm optimistic, put it that way. I would say it's 80-20 for.
"He wants another challenge and it certainly would be a challenge coming to us. I think hopefully things will materialise in a day or so."

Gallas set for Spurs switch

Former Arsenal captain William Gallas will have a medical at White Hart Lane on Friday ahead of a move to Tottenham, acccording to reports.
Harry Redknapp has already confirmed his admiration for the 33-year-old, who left Arsenal when his contract expired at Emirates Stadium at the end of last season.
Italian giants Juventus and Panathinaikos are amongst a number of continental clubs to hold talks with the former Chelsea star.
But it now appears that Spurs could be ready to pounce for Gallas and talks are believed to be at an advanced stage.
Gallas is due to have a medical on Friday, with a view to completing a move to White Hart Lane over the weekend.
The former Chelsea centre-back's wage demands - reportedly £80,000 per week - were thought to have been behind his departure from the Emirates Stadium.
But they have not put off Redknapp, who said last week: "His wages aren't a problem. He has not been greedy at all.
"His people have rung up and we spoke about it."
Redknapp also shrugged off any controversy there could be from Gallas moving directly from Arsenal to Spurs,
The Spurs boss added: "He's been an Arsenal player but he was at Chelsea before that and playing abroad before he arrived there.
"It's not like we would be signing Tony Adams. He's a good player and he would be a very useful addition to our squad."
With Jonathan Woodgate still out with a long-term groin injury and captain Ledley King plagued by knee problems that have the potential to limit his playing time, Redknapp has been keen to bolster his defensive resources.

Liverpool sign Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones

Liverpool have formally announced the signing of Middlesbrough goalkeeper Brad Jones on a three-year deal.

• Skrtel signs new deal
Jones joins the club for a fee of £2.3 million and will act as understudy to established No. 1 Pepe Reina, competing with Brazilian Diego Cavalieri for a place on the bench.
Manager Roy Hodgson said: "We set about the task of finding someone who would be as good a complement to Reina as Cavalieri has been.
"Brad Jones is the man we have chosen to back up Pepe Reina, to put him under pressure to some extent but, most importantly, be ready to play.''
A club statement read: "Liverpool have completed the signing of goalkeeper Brad Jones from Middlesbrough.
"The 28-year-old Australian agreed terms and passed a medical earlier in the week, and has now put pen to paper on his three-year contract."
Jones, 28, emerged from the Middlesbrough academy and has spent loan spells with Stockport, Rotherham, Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday.
He becomes Liverpool's sixth signing of the summer following Joe Cole, Danny Wilson, Christian Poulsen, Milan Jovanovic and Jonjo Shelvey.

Chelsea set to make final £25m Neymar offer

Neymar, Brazil
Chelsea plan to step up their pursuit of highly-rated Brazilian striker Neymar by tabling a £25 million take-it or-leave-it offer with Santos in the next 24 hours.

Neymar is believed to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge
Representatives of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich are currently in Brazil attempting to resolve an escalating row over the 18-year-old who recently made his debut for the Selecao.
Chelsea had a £17 million bid for Neymar rejected last month and are set to follow it up with a £25 million final offer, but that still might not be good enough as Santos are holding out for the £29.6 million buyout clause in his contract.
The Brazilian giants won't budge from their stance despite Neymar - who has publicly expressed doubts about leaving - privately informing his club that he wishes to join Chelsea.
According to Soccernet sources close to the deal, the economic rights of the player are owned by investors, who believe that they need to persuade Neymar to sign a new contract because his value has already soared to beyond his buyout price.
An insider told Soccernet: "There is a big fight still on to convince Santos to part with the player. There is strong pressure on the boy to stay.
"In the next few days we shall know one way or the other whether a deal with Chelsea can be achieved."
Chelsea have been caught up in an amazing tug-of-war for Neymar, with Santos threatening to report them to FIFA for tapping up the striker.
But the source said: "The President of Santos had dinner with agent Pini Zahavi and the people from Chelsea. How can that be tapping up?
"The boy was forced to go onto Brazilian TV to say he wants to stay with Santos, when the truth is that he wants to go to Chelsea."

Milner signs at City as Ireland joins Villa

James Milner has completed his move to Manchester City from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee, with Stephen Ireland joining Villa.
The England midfielder, 24, has joined the big-spending Blues after a summer of speculation over his future, although Eastlands always seemed likely to be his ultimate destination.
Milner has signed a five-year contract and midfielder Ireland has joined Villa from City as part of the deal.
Milner, who completed his medical late on Tuesday, could make his City debut in their Premier League clash with Liverpool at Eastlands on Monday.
City boss Roberto Mancini told the club's website: "I am very happy to have James with us, everybody knows we have admired him for some time.
"He is an excellent midfielder who can play in a number of positions. This is important for the team and I am looking forward to seeing him play for us. We have a very strong squad and this signing is a very important one for us.
"James is already a very good player who has proved he can play at the very top level. But he is also young and a good character, I think he can also improve and be a great player for Manchester City for a long time."
Milner replaces Ireland as City's number seven, and Mancini added of the departing midfielder: "I hope things go well for Stevie at Villa.
"He is also a very good player and he has played a big part in City's history. I think he will enjoy the change of being at another club and I hope he does well for Aston Villa."
Milner's future had been the subject of ongoing speculation since Villa rejected a bid of around £20million from City in May.
Then Villa boss Martin O'Neill revealed last month that the midfielder had asked for a move away from Villa Park and had refused to sign a new contract.
Villa's decision to sell Milner and how much of the fee O'Neill would be able to reinvest in the transfer market were rumoured to be key factors in the Northern Irishman's shock resignation last week.
Under O'Neill, Milner developed into one of England's top midfielders last season, proving a revelation after moving from the wing into the centre.
He was the principal figure behind Villa's ultimately unsuccessful push for a Champions League spot and his form earned him a starting spot in three of England's four World Cup games in South Africa.
Indeed, Milner was one of the few players to emerge with his reputation intact from a disappointing tournament and City continued their pursuit on his return.
The two clubs finally agreed a fee but the deal was held up still further by the involvement of Ireland, who reportedly demanded a £2million pay-off from City.
Milner played in Villa's opening Barclays Premier League game of the season against West Ham last Saturday and scored in a 3-0 win, earning a standing ovation as he bade his farewell.
But the transfer has now finally gone through, bringing an end to two years at Villa Park for Milner and eight years with City for Ireland.
Ireland, now 23, looked set for a great future at Eastlands after breaking into the first team as a teenager and then picking up the club's player of the year award for the 2008/09 season.
But his opportunities dried up once Mancini replaced Mark Hughes last autumn and the Italian made it clear Ireland's future lay elsewhere.
Milner began his career with Leeds and became the Premier League's then youngest scorer when he netted against Sunderland on Boxing Day 2002, nine days before his 17th birthday.
Leeds' relegation saw Milner sold to Newcastle in 2004 but he was on the move again a year later when a clause in the deal that took Nolberto Solano from Villa to St James' Park sent Milner on loan in the other direction.
A permanent deal seemed on the cards the following summer but Newcastle eventually decided to keep the midfielder, and he stayed with the Magpies for another two seasons before joining Villa for a reported £12million in 2008.
Milner becomes City's eighth signing of the transfer window and follows in the footsteps of former Villa team-mate Gareth Barry, who moved to Eastlands last summer.

Ozil reject Man Utd and agreed to join Real Madrid

Werder Bremen have confirmed midfielder Mesut Ozil has joined Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around 15 million euros.
Bremen turned down an offer from the Spanish giants on Friday but have now reached an agreement which satisfies their demands for a player who would have been available on a free transfer when his contract expired in 12 months.
The player, who was one of the stars of the World Cup in South Africa, will undergo a medical in the Spanish capital tomorrow.
The 21-year-old did not take part in the Bundesliga club's final training session ahead of tomorrow's Champions League clash with Sampdoria this afternoon.
Madrid also confirmed the deal, and Bremen's director of sport Klaus Allofs said: "We are respecting the player's wishes to take the next step in his career immediately."
Allofs had opened up new contract talks with the Germany international a year ago, but the player officially rejected the club's final offer prior to the World Cup.
From that moment, it was clear Bremen would be forced to sell the 21-year-old, who only had a year left to run on the three-year deal he signed when he arrived from Schalke in 2008, otherwise they would have lost him on a free transfer next summer.
Words to that effect from Ozil's father, who told Turkey's Hurriyet newspaper today that his son will be moving to Real Madrid "in any case", may have spurred Bremen on to accept Real's improved offer.
Allofs will also be glad to have resolved an issue which had threatened to overshadow tomorrow's crucial clash with Sampdoria.
"I am worried that we don't have enough peace and quiet ahead of the game on Wednesday," Allofs said at the weekend.
Coach Thomas Schaaf now also knows that he will not have a difficult team selection choice to make tomorrow night.
Had Ozil played in the Champions League qualifier, he would have been ruled out of appearing in the competition for another club this season, effectively ending any hope of the player moving on this summer, and Schaaf was facing a choice of whether to pick an important member of his squad, or leave him out in order not to jeopardise a potential transfer.
That transfer has now gone through, however, with Ozil, who played 71 times for Bremen, scoring 12 goals, now set to play in the Champions League for Real.
Ozil was a key member of the Germany squad which finished third at the World Cup in South Africa and his performances there will have convinced Real coach Jose Mourinho to make him his second signing from the Germany national team this summer after spending 14 million euros for Sami Khedira from Stuttgart.

Wenger can't afford not to sign Schwarzer

Arsenal's failure to sign Mark Schwarzer has already proved costly, and urges Arsene Wenger to get the deal done.
The opening weekend of the Premier League season only really reinforced the obvious truths we already know. Didier Drogba is useful in front of goal, Paul Scholes can pass and Arsenal need a new goalkeeper. And quick.
Arsene Wenger's young side have been tipped by many - including me - to come of age this season, but the Gunners can forget any hope of winning the title unless they come up with the cash Fulham require to sanction the transfer of want-away keeper Mark Schwarzer.
Manuel Almunia was handed the gloves at Anfield on Sunday, and strangely the captain's armband, but his selection had more to do with the lack of a suitable alternative rather than anything the Spaniard brings to the role. Lukasz Fabianski had the opportunity to stake his claim for the number one spot at the back end of last season when Almunia finally paid the price for a series of costly mistakes, but the Pole let the opportunity slip so spectacularly through his butter-smeared grasp that it is highly unlikely he'll get another.
With his two first-choice stoppers looking incapable of stopping a pig in a ginnel, Wenger has been forced to accept the need to buy a goalkeeper, something he has been extremely loathe to do since the departure of Jens Lehmann.
The Arsenal manager believes the club's future number one is already on the books at The Emirates, with Wenger having hailed youngster Wojciech Szczæsny as a "future great, great goalkeeper". But the Gunners cannot wait for the 20-year-old Pole anymore than they can afford to rush his development. Wenger needs a stop-gap stopper immediately.
Luckily for Arsenal, Wenger's desire to sign Schwarzer seems to be matched by the Australian's desire to move across London from Fulham. But the delay in getting the deal done may well have cost the Gunners two precious points on Merseyside last weekend.
The only certain thing about Almunia's performance at Anfield is that his days are numbered. After flapping hopelessly at a couple of high balls in the first half, the Spaniard then allowed David Ngog's angled drive to sneak in at his near post, with Almunia slow to shift off his left leg, moving only after the French striker's shot had hit the roof of the net.
Comparatively, it was not the worst mistake he has ever made, but a mistake it remains, and that is what separates Almunia from the better of his Premier League peers; the ability to cut out costly errors or at least keep them to an absolute minimum.
That is where Schwarzer comes in. While the former Bradford and Middlesbrough keeper is not in the 'world class' category, he is a safe pair of hands who rarely makes a mistake.
Many have questioned the wisdom of buying a 38-year-old, but Schwarzer's advancing years are seen as a positive by Wenger. The Aussie has perhaps two years left in him, and will be much more willing to help with the development of Szczæsny, rather than look up upon the Pole as a rival, now or in the future.
Shay Given has been mentioned as a potential target after the Irishman was left in no uncertainty as to his number two status at Manchester City. Given though will fancy four more years before hanging up his gloves, which is too long to hold back Szczæsny. That matters little, however, as City will never sanction a move that would considerably strengthen one of their main title rivals.
Schwarzer also comes cheaper than Given, a fact that was never likely to be overlooked by the notoriously stingy Wenger, but the Gunners and Fulham are still around £1million apart in their valuation. That, though, is a sum of money Arsenal cannot afford not to spend if it means finally plugging their porous last line of defence.

Bellamy 'thrilled' with Cardiff loan

Manchester City outcast Craig Bellamy admits he is "thrilled" to have secured a season-long loan deal with Cardiff, saying: "I'm coming home."
The 31-year-old Wales international has agreed to drop down a division and sign for his hometown club after being frozen out at Eastlands by manager Roberto Mancini.
Tottenham, Sunderland and Fulham were linked with Bellamy but City did not want the striker joining one of their Premier League rivals.
Bellamy insisted there were no hard feelings about his departure from City and he moved to Cardiff to "come home".
Bellamy told today's press conference: "Nothing's difficult about this. I had the greatest time at Manchester City at a great period in their history.
"I was bought to take the club on to the next stage and I feel I played a big part in doing that. The players they're signing are incredible.
"The next couple of years I'm sure they'll get the Premier League title, and I hope they do."
Bellamy refused to comment on reports City would not allow him to join a rival Premier League club but praised manager Roberto Mancini.
"There's no ill feeling," added the 31-year-old. "I hope he does well, he's a top manager."
Bellamy explained the chance to spend more time with his family was his primary motivation for joining Cardiff, and he does not expect to have it easy in the second tier.
"My wife and kids live here and I've spent the last six years travelling up and down the road," he said. "I left home at 15. I've always wanted to come back but I wanted to come back at the top of my game.
"I've come down to the Championship willing to put my neck on the line. It's probably the hardest football decision I'll have to make in my career.
"I grew up in this league and it's tough, and that gives me excitement as well. It's a great challenge for me."
Bellamy continued: "With the players we have I think we've got to be looking at promotion.
"I've been in the Premier League for 10 years now and probably now I'm at the height of my career.
"I feel in great condition but the next couple of weeks is going to be difficult - but that would have been the case wherever I'd gone.
"I don't mind dipping into the Championship for a year but hopefully I want to bring this club back to the Premier League. I've always watched Cardiff, whenever I've had an opportunity.
"I have been able to train here and Cardiff have always kept the door available to me - I know the set-up so it's just a very happy time for me."
The Bluebirds missed out on promotion to the top flight of English football when they were beaten by Blackpool in May's Championship play-off final.
And Bellamy continued at the press conference, televised by Sky Sports News: "It will be big for south Wales if we get back to the Premier League. Even if Swansea got up it would be great for us in this country. Young kids would get the chance to see great players."
He joked: "Dave (manager, Jones) being here...it will be nice to come home without him being at my doorstep. That will be a relief. I'll get to see him every day now."
Bellamy earlier had announced his joy at completing the move, saying: "I'm thrilled to be coming back home to Cardiff and am excited at the prospect of wearing the shirt and playing for the club I've supported since I was a boy.
"I'll be working hard with my new team-mates to bring success to the club and look forward to our next Championship game on Saturday.
"I'm sure that all City fans will play their part in driving us forward this year.
"It has been my dream to play my part in taking my hometown club to the Premier League, which would be fantastic for the football club, the city of Cardiff and Wales."
Bluebirds boss Jones said: "Bringing Craig to Cardiff is another big step in the development of this football club and I am delighted that he has agreed to join us on a season-long loan.
"Like recent additions Jason Koumas and Seyi Olofinjana, Craig is a great talent and adds to the quality players that we have here.
"We will continue to work on taking the next steps as a club and hope that all Cardiff City supporters join us in welcoming Craig by turning up in high numbers this season."
Mancini did not rule out the possibility of Bellamy playing for him again.
"I am happy for him. I hope that for him it will be a good season," said Mancini.
"It's his choice. but I hope for him it will be a fantastic season in Cardiff, it's his home.
"I think it's a good choice for him, his family is there."
Asked if Bellamy might have a future at Eastlands after his loan spell in Wales, Mancini added: "I don't know, in football anything can happen."

Spurs bid striker Loic Remy

HARRY REDKNAPP has slapped in a £12million bid for striker Loic Remy.

Redknapp's Spurs were held to a goalless draw by a Joe Hart-inspired Manchester City in Saturday's Premier League curtain-raiser.
And that prompted the White Hart Lane chief to finally dive in with an offer for the coveted 23-year-old Nice ace.
Cash Stoke failed to lure Remy to the Britannia when he snubbed their offer following a tour of the club's training ground.
West Ham and Liverpool are also keen on the player but unwilling to splash the cash, while French champions Marseille could make a move.
But the striker, who scored the winner in Nice's 2-1 victory over Lorient on Saturday, has indicated his desire to join Spurs.

Chelsea are close to completing a £25million deal for Brazil striker Neymar

Premier League champions Chelsea are close to completing a £25million deal for Brazil striker Neymar, according to reports.
Santos president Luis Alvaro Ribeiro has hit out at Chelsea's conduct in their pursuit of his club's star striker and has reportedly rejected the West London's opening bid of £20million for the 18-year-old.
However, the youngster has set his sights on a move to Europe after being courted by the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and City, as well as Real Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus and Barcelona.
Chelsea seem confident that Neymar, who recently marked his Brazil debut with a goal in a 2-0 win over the USA will sign for the Stamford Bridge club and join compatriot Ramires, who signed from Benfica last week.
Neymar's agent Wagner Ribeiro told The Daily Star: "It is useless for Santos to offer Neymar a pay rise.
"He wants to become the best player in the world.
"The chances of him doing that while playing in Brazil are zero."
Ribero claims that Chelsea officials have already met the player and his father to discuss personal terms.
Meanwhile, the player recently denied that he has already agreed to join Carlo Ancelotti's side before the end of the transfer window telling journalists in Brazil: "I want to stay at Santos and win more titles."

Bellamy set for Cardiff loan

Manchester City forward Craig Bellamy is reportedly set to join his hometown club Cardiff on a shock six-month loan deal.
Bellamy does not have a future at Eastlands and it had been expected he would move to Tottenham, with Harry Redknapp a known admirer of the Welshman.
However, Redknapp admitted on Sunday that a loan to White Hart Lane was out of the question, citing Fulham as the favourites to get him and it has since emerged that it is in fact Cardiff looking set to win the race for the 31-year-old.
He will reportedly be unveiled by the Championship outfit on a six-month loan tomorrow and be made captain by Bluebirds boss Dave Jones.
Redknapp said earlier: "He's never going to come here on loan.
"He'll go somewhere and I would think Fulham are favourites now. If we want him, we will have to put up the money to sign him."
Jones, meawnhile, admitted it would be a dream to sign Bellamy, saying: "You can dream about things but miracles take a little bit longer.
"If it happens, it would be fantastic and we would all love him to be here but there are bigger fish for him."

Maradona interested to manage Aston Villa

Former Argentina boss Diego Maradona has targeted a return to management with Aston Villa.
Maradona's European representative Walter Soriano claims the 49-year-old is in talks with a number of clubs over a possible move to Europe.
The controversial former Napoli star left his role as Argentina coach last month after his side crashed out in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
Maradona's reputation in England will be forever tarnished by his 'Hand of God' goal against the Three Lions at the 1986 World Cup, but Soriano insists his client would be open to an approach from Villa owner Randy Lerner.
He told the Sunday Mercury: "I think Diego would be very open to the idea of coming to England and managing Aston Villa.
"He is very attracted to English football and the way of life in your country and I know he would be very willing to move there.
"He loves the English countryside and your respect for privacy, so he would be very happy there, especially at a big club like Aston Villa.
"If the owner Randy Lerner wants to make him a serious offer, I am sure he would get a very positive response.
"Diego is currently talking with a number of clubs in Europe - including another one in England - about a management role and is looking at his options carefully."
Lerner is seeking a new permanent manager at Villa Park after Martin O'Neill quit just days before the start of the new Premier League season.
Kevin MacDonald was in caretaker charge as Villa began the new campaign with a convincing 3-0 win against West Ham.

City have offered Zlatan Ibrahimovic HALF MILLION a week

MANCHESTER City have offered Zlatan Ibrahimovic a four-year deal worth a staggering £96MILLION - or roughly £500,000 a week.

The mega-deal would make the Barcelona striker the highest-paid footballer in the world, earning £24m a year.
That dwarfs the salaries of top stars such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka.
City representatives made their mouth-watering offer direct to Ibrahimovic's manager Mino Raiola to show how much they want to capture the Swedish international.
The huge deal dwarfs the 11m euros a year the striker picks up at the Nou Camp.
Ibrahimovic is unsettled at Barca despite joining only last summer in a 50m euro deal that also took Samuel Eto'o from Barcelona to the San Siro.
The enigmatic forward fell out with Barca coach Pep Guardiola in February and the pair barely speak now.
Ibrahimovic is upset he has not been a regular starter and he has clashed with his coach over Barca's style of play.
So the chance to be involved in building a new club to rival Europe's best is an attractive proposition, especially with such a salary on offer.
The striker is familiar with City boss Roberto Mancini after the pair's time together at Inter Milan.
A source close to Ibrahimovic said: "City have shown how much they want Zlatan and although he is well paid at Barcelona this offer is in a different league.
"It has given him plenty to think about especially when he is not so happy with his football at Barca.
"The idea of being part of a move to create a new super club to challenge the very best in Europe is also attractive.
"City have to agree a deal with Barcelona before this can go any further - but there's a feeling that could all happen fairly quickly now."
Unsettled Brazilian star Robinho could move to Barcelona as a makeweight in the deal.
Ibrahimovic's arrival would raise more questions about the futures of strikers Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor, Roque Santa Cruz and Craig Bellamy as City continue their spree.

Welbeck seals Cats loan move

Sunderland have wrapped up the signing of Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on a season-long loan deal.
Welbeck underwent a medical on Wearside earlier on Thursday and has now been confirmed as Sunderland's eighth signing of the summer.
The 19-year-old has been allowed out on loan by United to build up his experience in the Premier League after making just eight top-flight appearances for the club.
He has featured a total of 22 times for the Red Devils, scoring five goals, and also spent a spell on loan at Preston last season.
The England Under 21 international is likely to go straight into Steve Bruce's squad for Saturday's season opener at home to Birmingham City.
Bruce had lined up a deal for Welbeck even before he agreed to sell Trinidad & Tobago international Kenwyne Jones to Stoke City.
Welbeck will now compete with Darren Bent, former United team-mate Fraizer Campbell and Martyn Waghorn for a place in the Sunderland attack.

Jagielka has scotched rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal

Everton defender Phil Jagielka has scotched rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal.
The 27-year-old, who made his second England start in Wednesday night's 2-1 win over Hungary, has been linked with a summer move to the Gunners, who are struggling for centre-backs following the departures of Sol Campbell, William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre.
A move to north London would be a step up for Jagielka given that Arsene Wenger can offer the defender Champions League football this season.
However Jagielka, who signed for the Toffees from npower Championship side Sheffield United in 2007, denies that he is seeking a move away from Goodison Park.
"There's nothing I can do about the speculation, but the gaffer has pulled me aside and told me I'm not going anywhere," Jagielka told talkSPORT.
"I'm happy with that. I'm an Everton player, I love playing for the club, and I'm just going to get on with my job there."
Jagielka marked his fourth England cap by unwittingly scoring the own-goal which put the Three Lions behind in their first match since their embarrassing World Cup exit to Germany.
The former Blades defender's embarrassment should have been avoided however, with replays showing the shot was cleared by Michael Dawson before all of the ball had crossed the line.
Jagielka was one of eight players not involved in South Africa who played Wednesday night's game, which England won courtesy of two superb goals from captain Steven Gerrard.
He now hopes to be part of a new era under Capello, who is determined to win a trophy with England before his contract runs out after Euro 2012.
"It did feel like a new era definitely," said Jagielka.
"If you looked at the team that finished the match then there won't have been many caps between us which is nice to see.
"We have a lot of good English talent coming up and I'm sure that the manager will put young and old together and hopefully we can kick on for the European Championships."
The Manchester-born defender said that the own goal will not overshadow his first international start at Wembley.
He said: "The goal was unlucky but overall it was a massive experience for me.
"It was the first time I've played at Wembley and the first time I've got some game time,"
"The lads did well to be out there and I was just as proud as punch to be out there."
Wednesday night's match was punctuated by booing from some home fans who directed their anger at the likes of Gerrard, Ashley Cole, Wayne Rooney and John Terry for their poor showing in South Africa.
Jagielka insists the players hold no grudges against those supporters and is confident that they will get behind the team when England begin their Euro 2012 qualifying campaign in September with games against Bulgaria and Switzerland.
Jagielka continued: "The fans pay their money to come and watch us and hopefully they'll keep coming to watch us.
"There's nothing that we can do about the World Cup now though.
"There are two important games coming up in September. We have to look forward. The European Championships will be a massive tournament for us and hopefully we can perform a bit better than we did at the World Cup."
